Businesses on the WhatsApp Business Platform can only start a conversation with an approved message template. This builder lets you write one, with a header, body, footer and buttons, and checks it against the format rules in Meta's developer documentation before you submit it. It shows a chat-bubble preview with your sample values filled in, and produces the JSON request body for the message templates API.
The limits it checks come from Meta's template components reference: a text header of up to 60 characters with one variable and no Markdown characters, a body of up to 1,024 characters, a footer of up to 60 characters, and up to 10 buttons. Within those 10, you can have up to 10 quick replies, 2 website buttons, 1 call button and 1 copy-code button. Button labels are capped at 25 characters, website URLs at 2,000, phone numbers at 20 and copy-code examples at 20. Template names use lowercase letters, numbers and underscores.
How to use it
- Name the template, choose the category and language, and pick positional (
{{1}}) or named ({{first_name}}) variables. - Write the body. Use
*bold*,_italic_and~strike~as you would in WhatsApp. - Add a header, footer and buttons if you need them. A website button can end in
{{1}}to add a tracking or order code. - Fill in a sample value for every variable. Meta asks for these, and reviewers see them.
- Fix everything marked "Fix", read the "Check" notes, then copy the text into WhatsApp Manager or send the JSON to the API.
How to read the result
"Problems" counts broken rules that will stop a template being accepted, such as a body over 1,024 characters, a third website button, or variables numbered {{1}}, {{2}}, {{4}}. Meta's review guidelines list missing or mismatched braces, #, $ or % inside a variable, numbers out of sequence and a template that starts or ends with a variable as reasons for rejection.
"Warnings" are softer. Meta rejects templates with too many variables for their length but does not publish a ratio, so the tool flags a body with fewer than three fixed words per variable. It also warns that four or more buttons, or a quick reply mixed with another button type, cannot be viewed on WhatsApp desktop, and that WhatsApp shows only two buttons plus "See all options" once you add a fourth.
Authentication templates are different: Meta supplies the text ("is your verification code") and you only choose options, so this builder is for marketing and utility templates.
For simple click-to-chat links, use the WhatsApp link generator. When templates are one part of a bigger WhatsApp setup, with replies, bookings and a hand-over to staff, that is the kind of AI agent and chatbot work we build.
Questions
Frequently asked.
Which template category should I choose?
Meta has three: utility for updates the customer expects, such as order, booking or account messages; marketing for offers, news and anything promotional; and authentication for one-time codes. Meta checks the category during review, and the category also affects what you pay, so pick the one that honestly matches the content.
Why can't a template start or end with a variable?
Meta's template review rules say a template cannot start or end with a parameter. A variable can hold anything, so reviewers need fixed text around it to see what the message is about. Add a few words before the first variable and after the last one.
Does passing these checks mean Meta will approve the template?
No. The tool checks the published format rules: lengths, button counts, variable syntax and placement. Meta's reviewers also judge the content against WhatsApp's policies and the category you chose, which no format check can predict.
