What it does

A WhatsApp link generator turns a phone number and an optional message into a wa.me link that opens a chat with you in one tap. The link is the standard format WhatsApp publishes, so it works on phones, desktop and WhatsApp Web without any app or plugin on your site. You also get an HTML snippet ready to paste and a QR code for print, so the same link can sit on a business card, a shop window or a brochure.

How to use it

  1. Type your WhatsApp number with its country code. Formatting does not matter; the generator keeps only the digits.
  2. Write the message you want visitors to start with, such as "Hi, I would like a quote for…". Leave it blank for an empty chat.
  3. Check the "Number used" figure to confirm the digits are right.
  4. Copy the link or the HTML, or download the QR code as a PNG for print.

How to read the result

The "Number used" stat shows the digits that will be dialled. For a number entered as +91 98765 43210 it reads 919876543210, which is what wa.me expects. If it shows a red badge instead, the number is too short, too long or starts with a zero, which usually means the country code is missing.

The link itself looks like https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi%2C%20I%20found… The part after text= is your message with spaces and punctuation encoded, which is why the link length grows faster than the message length. The 85-character sample message produces a link of 149 characters. That is fine on a website, but for print use the QR code rather than the typed URL.

The pre-filled message is a prompt, not a form. Visitors can edit or delete it, so keep it short and let them say what they need.

A floating button is the usual next step; the WhatsApp chat button generator builds one from the same link. If you want the button wired into a CRM or a lead flow, that is part of our website design and development work.

Questions

Frequently asked.

What format does the phone number need?

International format with the country code and digits only, so +91 98765 43210 becomes 919876543210. No plus sign, no leading zeros, no spaces or dashes. The generator strips all of that automatically, and warns if the number starts with a zero or has the wrong number of digits.

Does the link work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. wa.me links work for personal and Business accounts alike. If you have a WhatsApp Business account, the chat opens with your business profile, catalogue and quick replies available, which makes a pre-filled opening message even more useful for routing enquiries.

Will the link open the app or WhatsApp Web?

On a phone with WhatsApp installed, the app opens straight to the chat. On a desktop it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app if one is installed. Either way the message is placed in the compose box and the visitor taps send.
