A tel link HTML snippet lets a phone user tap a number on your site and start the call. The generator takes a country code and a local number, removes spaces, dashes and the trunk zero, and produces a tel: link in the international E.164 format that every phone, desktop softphone and screen reader handles. You get the raw link, an anchor tag with your chosen text, and a tap-to-test link so you can confirm it dials before publishing.
How to use it
- Select the country, or choose Other and type the code yourself.
- Paste the phone number as you normally write it. Brackets, spaces and dashes are fine.
- Set the link text, or leave it empty to show the formatted number.
- Copy the tel: link or the HTML into your header, footer or contact page, then tap it on a phone to confirm it dials the right number.
How to read the result
The E.164 stat shows the number as it will be dialled, for example +919876543210 for an Indian mobile entered as 098765 43210. The hint underneath says "leading 0 removed" when the trunk prefix was dropped. If the badge reads "Too long", the result has more than 15 digits, which is the E.164 maximum and almost always means the country code was typed twice.
The digit count helps you spot a missing or extra digit. Indian mobiles have 12 digits after the plus (2 for the country, 10 for the number); UAE mobiles have 12 as well (971 plus 9 digits); UK mobiles have 12 (44 plus 10). A count that does not match the pattern for your country deserves a second look.
The HTML output is a plain anchor, so it inherits your site's link styling. Add a phone icon or a button class if it should stand out.
Pair it with a mailto link for the email address, and consider a WhatsApp link where customers prefer messaging. Contact details like these are part of the local business markup we set up during website design and development.
Questions
Frequently asked.
Why does the link need the country code?
A tel: link is dialled by the visitor's phone, which may be anywhere in the world. A local number like 098765 43210 only works from inside India. Written as +919876543210 it works from every country and every carrier, which is why the generator always produces the international E.164 form.
What happens with the leading zero?
In most countries the leading zero is a trunk prefix used only for domestic calls. It must be dropped once the country code is added. The generator removes it for you and flags that it did so. North American numbers (+1) do not use a trunk zero, so nothing is removed there.
Can I show the number with spaces?
Yes. The href must be digits with a leading plus and nothing else, but the visible text between the tags can be formatted however you like, for example +91 98765 43210. The generator keeps the two separate so the link stays dialable while the display stays readable.
