Choosing
Which website care option suits your business?
Start with your hosting arrangement. Managed hosting suits you if you want the maintainer responsible for speed and uptime as well as website care. Self-managed hosting gives an in-house IT team control over its server policies, but leaves your team with more of the hosting responsibility. The right choice depends on who has access and who is expected to act when the site has a problem.
Your site’s construction also affects the work. A custom-coded or static site has no plugin layer to patch, although its dependencies, renewals and monitoring still need attention. A plugin-based content management system has more update checks. Automatic updates close known security holes sooner, but a conflict can go unnoticed; updates tested on a staging copy take more effort and give you a chance to catch conflicts before visitors see them.
We begin by learning about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. That gives you a way to decide what your team will handle and what you want us to manage.
Market
What website owners in Australia need from care
An online store needs attention to checkout, payments and stock sync: a failed checkout can stop a customer completing a purchase. Include those connections when you discuss the site with a maintainer, so the work reflects how the store operates.
A marketing team may need new pages, job posts and campaign updates without starting a development project each time. A small or medium business without in-house developers may instead be looking for someone accountable for updates, backups and fixes. Be clear about who will request changes and what you expect the maintainer to take on.
Rules
What website care in Australia has to handle
Accessibility belongs in the care conversation. Australian guidance on equal access to digital goods and services recommends WCAG 2.2 at a minimum of Level AA. We set up accessibility checks against that guidance for the pages in the agreed scope, then address issues identified in the work. When you request a page change, tell us which page is affected so the check covers the content being maintained.
For a plugin-heavy WordPress site, regular updates also need testing for compatibility. We include that work in the care scope so you know which parts of the site are being checked.
How it runs
How website care runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. During daylight saving time, IST is 5h30m behind Sydney; outside it, IST is 4h30m behind. A shared board lets you leave page links and decisions for us to pick up across that difference.
- 01
Review
We list the software versions, plugins, hosting, backups, domain expiry, user accounts and known problems. We rank fixes by risk so you can see what needs attention first.
- 02
Handover
You provide website admin, hosting, domain and DNS access. You also name the people who may request changes and the person who approves the work.
- 03
Update
We back up the site, update a staging copy and check key pages and forms. Once checked, we apply the same updates to the live site.
- 04
Requests
Use one channel for changes. Send the page link and the exact edit, with a screenshot where that makes the request clearer.
- 05
Report
We provide a monthly view of uptime, speed and traffic, with a summary of changes. Use it to follow what has been handled.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you have; the review can identify gaps in the handover.
- Account accessWebsite admin, hosting, domain registrar, DNS, email and premium plugin or theme logins.
- ConnectionsA list of forms, CRM, payment gateway, booking tool, analytics and ad tracking linked to the site.
- Known problemsDetails of hacks, outages, broken forms or slow pages, with rough dates if anyone remembers them.
- Renewal detailsDates for the domain, SSL certificate, hosting and licences, or the accounts where those dates can be checked.
- Email accountsInclude them in the renewal discussion alongside the domain, hosting and licences, so responsibility for their dates is clear.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and scope of website care
The work needed at handover and the cover you expect both shape the scope.
Site condition
An outdated, hacked or undocumented site needs clean-up before routine care can begin.
Plugins and connections
More plugins, integrations and custom features mean more things to check after updates.
Content requests
The amount of change work and how quickly each edit needs to go live affect the work involved.
Response cover
Urgent or out-of-hours support adds to a plan built around normal working hours.
Traffic and hosting
Busy sites and online stores need stronger hosting, caching and closer monitoring.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with website care
Keeping the only backup on the site’s server
A server failure or hack can take the backup with it. Keep a copy away from that server.
Never checking a restore
A backup that cannot be restored is a poor discovery during an emergency. Test restores as part of care.
Leaving the domain or hosting in a former employee’s or agency’s personal account: Move control to an account the business can access, so renewals and changes are easier to handle.
Sending renewal reminders to an old inbox
Update the contact address and check reminders. An expired domain can take the website and company email offline together.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Australia
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire someone to maintain a website?
There is no fixed price. The site’s condition, the plugins and integrations that need checking, and the amount of content work all affect the scope. An outdated or undocumented site can need clean-up before routine care starts. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Should I choose a care plan or pay as I go?
A monthly care plan suits you if you want updates, monitoring and an agreed amount of change work handled. Pay-as-you-go support suits a stable site with rare changes, though response is slower when something breaks. Consider how much work you expect to request and how your business handles a broken site.
What is included in website maintenance?
Care covers software updates, keeping the site online and backed up, fixing problems and making content changes your team cannot make itself. Our managed hosting includes SSL and a content delivery network. We also handle content changes such as text, images, new pages, blog posts and job listings.
Who owns the hosting account?
You own it; we manage it on your behalf. Keep a written record of the accounts, renewal dates and changes made as care continues. That record gives your business access to its history and helps if you decide to switch providers later.
Can you maintain a website you did not build?
Yes. We start with a review, fix anything urgent and then keep the site maintained. Tell us about known problems during the handover, and identify who can approve work. That gives us a route to deal with urgent issues before settling into routine care.
How do I know my contact form is still working?
Send test submissions regularly and check they reach the right inbox. A change to a mail setting, plugin or spam filter can interrupt delivery even when the form still appears on the page. Also read your care report for trends such as falling form submissions or rising load times.
