Custom software development company for Australia
Give your team a shared system for the work that currently passes between spreadsheets, documents and people. We build custom software for organisations in Australia, starting with the process that will save the most time. We agree how records, statuses and links should work before building, so the information supports the work ahead. You speak directly to the people designing and building your software.

Choosing
Should you buy software or build it?
Start with the work you need to do. An existing product often fits standard processes such as accounting, payroll or email. Custom software is worth considering when your process sets your business apart, or when several products leave gaps that people have to fill by hand. We will tell you if an existing product is a better fit.
A hybrid is another option. You keep a proven product for standard work and build the missing workflow around it, connected through its API. That gives you a way to address a specific gap without replacing a system your team already uses. The connection itself needs to be part of the scope, alongside the workflow.
You can also replace one workflow first. This lowers risk and gives you something useful to assess before changing more of the operation. Replacing everything at once fits a different situation, such as an old system that is failing or being withdrawn. For hosting, managed cloud reduces server upkeep; a private server or a specific cloud region suits stricter IT policies or data-location rules.
Market
What Australian software buyers need
A distributor or manufacturer may need to see order, stock and dispatch status without comparing separate spreadsheets. A professional firm may need case or job tracking, document storage and time records tied to billing. Health, finance and inspection organisations may need access controls and records that stand up to review. Your workflow determines which records and reports need to be available to each person.
Australia uses the Peppol framework for e-invoicing. If your invoice workflow uses accounting software, we connect the custom system to that tool and map the information the workflow needs to pass across. Raise the invoicing process during discovery so it is accounted for in the design.
Rules
What an Australian project has to handle
GST is 10% on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in Australia. Where your workflow creates invoice records, we set up fields for the relevant GST information so it can be recorded alongside the transaction. Bring examples of the invoices you use when we agree the workflow.
The Privacy Act 1988 applies to most government agencies and to private organisations with annual turnover above $3 million, among others. If it applies to your organisation, we include access permissions and audit trails in the build so you can control access to records and see changes. We agree those roles around the work each person needs to do.
How it runs
How a custom software project runs with us
We are a studio in India, working remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 4h30m behind Sydney, or 5h30m behind during daylight saving. The shared board keeps questions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We map the process with you and agree what the first version should cover, concentrating on the work that will save the most time.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check that the proposed steps fit how your team works.
- 03
Build and review
We work in small increments and demonstrate each one. You test it with real cases and decide what needs to change before the next increment.
- 04
Prepare for go-live
We migrate and check data and train staff. The old and new systems may run side by side until their figures match.
- 05
Launch and care
We test on real devices and browsers, then handle domain, email, analytics and search setup. Ongoing support follows launch.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
These materials and decisions give us a clearer view of the work your software needs to support.
- Current materialsGather spreadsheets, forms, templates and sample records, with notes on the columns people use.
- UsersList who needs access, what each person must do and what they must not see.
- PrioritiesRank problems by hours lost, errors, late jobs or missed revenue to help define the first version.
- Tool accessIdentify an administrator for each accounting, CRM or email tool that needs a connection.
- An internal ownerChoose someone who can answer questions about business rules and keep testing moving.
Cost & time
What affects cost and time
The scope of the work determines the effort needed to build and test it.
Workflows and roles
The number of processes, user roles and approval steps says more about the work than the screen count alone.
Exceptions
Pricing tiers, approval limits and branch-specific steps add rules to implement and test.
Existing data
Large or messy migrations, especially with long histories, need more cleaning and checking.
Security requirements
Detailed logs, retention rules and single sign-on add to the scope.
Field access
Offline use or a mobile app alongside a web system adds another front end to build and test.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Copying the spreadsheet screen for screen
Map and fix the process first, then build the simplest system that supports it. Otherwise, the old problems come across with the familiar layout.
Putting every request into the first version
Focus on the biggest bottleneck. What your team learns from using that version can shape the next phase.
Importing records without checking them
Clean and check the data before import, so old errors do not become problems in the new system.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Australia
Page updated 5 November 2026
How do I choose the best software development company for my project?
Choose a company that can discuss your actual workflow and explain its decisions. Ask how it would define who can see, edit, approve and export records, and how it would design reports around questions your managers need answered. Those details give you something concrete to assess in a proposal.
How much does custom software development cost?
There is no fixed price for every project. The work involved in connecting existing tools and migrating records is a major part of the scope: each connection needs an agreed master copy for its fields, while old data needs column mapping and decisions about history. We can discuss those details as the scope is agreed.
What is included in a custom software project?
The work can include a shared system for records, with permissions and history, plus live reports and exports for finance and management. This is useful when your team has outgrown spreadsheets or an old desktop database. We agree which parts of that work belong in the initial scope.
Who owns the software after it is built?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Agree how your team will access and maintain each asset, and who inside your business will be responsible for it after launch. That gives you a clear starting point for future changes or maintenance.
What support is available after launch?
We provide fixes, improvements and new features after launch. To assess what the software has changed, take a baseline beforehand for measures such as time per task, error counts, turnaround and status queries. Compare those measures once your team has settled into the new system.
How do you decide what to build first?
We start by mapping the process as it actually runs. That means identifying who does each step, the order of work, the documents and approvals involved, and where work waits. The resulting map gives you a practical basis for deciding which part of the process to address first.
