Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with editing. WordPress suits a team that publishes frequently and wants to change most of the site without a developer. Its choice of plugins gives you room to add functions, but someone needs to keep it updated to help maintain security. Think about who will take responsibility for that work after launch.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a design that needs to move beyond template limits. It is a good fit when fast pages and security are priorities and you are comfortable asking a developer to make structural changes. A custom site can still have a content editor, so your team does not have to hand over every routine text change.
We recommend an option after learning how your team works. Tell us what you expect to publish, who will edit it and which changes you would want to make yourselves. That conversation gives us a practical basis for choosing WordPress or Next.js before the design and build begin.
Local
What New York businesses need from a website
Finance and tourism are major New York industries. A finance business needs a site that explains its services and gives prospective clients a clear route to enquire. A tourism business can make its contact and call options easy to find on a phone, with forms routed to the person who handles requests.
New York's agricultural producers, including those working with apples and dairy, may need product or capability pages, downloadable specifications and a quote form that collects enough detail for a useful response. The state also has colleges and universities; an organisation there can use clear page structure and a content editor to keep information accessible to its visitors and staff.
Rules
What a US website project needs to handle
For a business open to the public, US guidance says the ADA covers goods and services offered on the web and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. We set an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide page design for desktop and mobile. WCAG groups its criteria into A, AA and AAA; we discuss which level to aim for and use the latest version as the reference for the work.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives both sides a place to keep feedback and project tasks visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what a visitor should do on the site. Those answers guide the sitemap before visual preferences take over.
- 02
Design
We prepare the sitemap, wireframes and page designs for desktop and mobile. You review them and give feedback before the designs are refined.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in code or with an editable CMS, then test it on real devices and browsers. Your team can see how the agreed pages work.
- 04
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
- 05
Check
Before launch, proofread every page, submit each form and confirm that the intended person receives its messages.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you have, and note who holds anything still missing.
- Your logo in a vector format, plus brand colours and fonts, or a note that these need creating.
- A ranked list of the services or products you want the site to feature.
- Examples of websites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Account details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests or applications, and who handles each enquiry.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and relevant certifications.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of a website?
The scope determines how much design, build and checking work is involved.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build effort; pages that share a template need less separate layout work.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and a CRM connection add design, development and testing work.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; copywriting, photography or translation add to it.
Content migration
Moving blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an old site adds transfer and checking work.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building a website
Choosing a platform too early
Decide who will update the site and how often before settling on the technology.
Using placeholder copy until the end
Bring real headings and paragraphs into the designs so the layout fits the content you will publish.
Letting someone else register your accounts
Hold the domain and hosting in your business's name and grant access to the people working on the site.
Leaving search setup until later
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in New York
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is a website still worth building?
A website is worth considering when it gives visitors a clear way to enquire and gives your team a place to publish current information. Measure form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks in analytics, then check which pages those enquiries started from. Assign someone to keep news, projects and job posts current.
How much does it cost to get a website built?
There is no fixed price. A design tailored to specific content, a separate content editor and the work of gathering copy and photographs all affect the scope. Tell us what you need the site to do and what content you have ready; once we agree the scope, we send you a free quote.
Can you build the site around our existing brand?
Yes. We can work with your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for use on the web where needed. Bring the files and any guidance your team already uses, and tell us if an asset still needs creating so we can account for it in the work.
What is included in the website build?
The work covers page design, development, content management, enquiries, search setup and handover. The editor can cover pages, news, projects and careers, so your team has a way to maintain those sections without training. At handover, we also give your team a walkthrough of the launch setup.
Will we own the website after launch?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. That gives your business control over the website after launch. Keep track of the accounts and people responsible for maintaining it, so future changes can be planned around how your team wants to use the site.
How do you handle enquiries from the website?
We set up contact and quote forms to reach the right inbox, along with WhatsApp and click-to-call options. Before the build, decide who should receive each type of message and what the visitor's confirmation should say. On mobile, also decide which direct contact buttons you want to show.
