Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with your editing needs. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its choice of plugins gives you options for adding features, but someone needs to keep the site updated for security. Decide who will take that responsibility before choosing it.
A custom design fits when your brand, content or audience calls for something specific. An adapted template can work for a simple site with a tight brief, provided its layouts are reworked around your actual content. Either way, check that the pages leave room for your real headings, descriptions and images.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. We recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js site after learning how your team works and who needs to make changes.
Local
What Cardiff organisations need from a website
Cardiff is a centre for finance and business services. If you manage a business in those fields, an enquiry form needs a clear route to the person who handles the request. Decide what the confirmation should say and whether a mobile visitor should also see WhatsApp or click-to-call. Those choices give your team a workable way to respond.
Cardiff also has major higher education institutions. For an organisation with several audiences and services to explain, the sitemap and page designs need to make those choices clear on both desktop and mobile. We develop wireframes and refine the pages with your feedback, so you can check the structure against the information visitors need.
Rules
What your UK website needs to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited-company status. We set up space for those details in the site, so you can check them before launch.
Services provided through a website must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. Agree an accessibility target in the brief: we use that target to guide the page work and set up a clear heading structure. WCAG provides A, AA and AAA levels for its success criteria.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. The shared board gives us a place to keep feedback and project decisions visible across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We learn about your business and agree the scope with you.
- 02
Plan
We make wireframes showing what goes on each page and in what order. Check the content and priorities before discussing colours.
- 03
Design
We develop the sitemap and page designs for desktop and mobile, then refine them with your feedback.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in Next.js or WordPress and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the pages as they come together.
- 05
Launch
Proofread each page, submit each form and confirm who receives the messages. We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you already have, along with the decisions your team has yet to make.
- Your logo in SVG, AI or EPS, plus brand colours and fonts.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console logins, or the name of their holder.
- Photos of your team, premises and finished work.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests, and who handles each enquiry.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of a website project
The work changes with the pages, features and material you need.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build work than pages that share a template.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections add design, build and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; copywriting, photography and translation add work.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding the colours, typefaces and logo during the project.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your website
Leaving content until the end
Use real headings and paragraphs in the design. Their length can change a layout that looked finished with placeholder text.
Reviewing only on a large screen
Check every page on a phone before approving the design, including the parts a visitor needs to use.
Putting accounts in an agency's name
Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business's name and grant access to the people working on them.
Copying every old page
Choose the pages your visitors need. A shorter site with clear service pages is easier to scan and keep current.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Cardiff
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. Content gathering and a separate content editor are among the choices that change the work: service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos need owners, while a headless setup adds components to host and maintain. Ask us for a quote once the scope is agreed.
Should I choose WordPress or a custom site?
Choose around how your team edits. WordPress suits frequent editing across the site; a custom Next.js site can also include an editor. We recommend an option after understanding your working practices. The editor we provide covers pages, news, projects and careers, so consider who will maintain each of those.
What search setup is included?
We set up metadata, structured data and sitemaps as part of a search-ready build. After launch, measure the site against enquiries: track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions in analytics, then check which pages those enquiries started from. That gives you a useful basis for reviewing the site.
Will I own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. That gives you control over the material that makes up your site as well as its domain. Keep a record of those assets with your business, so the people responsible for the website know what you own.
What happens after the site launches?
We provide ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who is responsible for updating news, projects and job posts. An old latest post can leave visitors wondering whether a company is still trading, so give those updates an owner as part of your handover planning.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Share the files and the details your team already uses, and tell us about any parts that still need attention. That gives the design work a clear starting point.
