Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code between iOS and Android. It suits products built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components; web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React web app.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical across platforms. Your team needs to be comfortable working in Dart. Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android, with separate codebases to build and maintain. It fits apps with deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work.
We usually build with React Native, using native modules where a feature needs them. We choose native when deep device features call for it. We’ll discuss what your app needs to do before settling on the approach.
Local
What Vaughan businesses need from an app
Manufacturing, construction, retail and transportation are part of the local employment mix. A business with delivery or inspection teams needs job forms, photos, signatures and location available on the phone, with records synced to the office when a signal returns. A shop serving repeat customers has a different task: make reordering and checkout quick, with loyalty details available in the app.
The city also has tourism operators, including attractions and a shopping centre. An operator whose customers already use its web platform could give frequent users an app that shares their existing accounts and data with the website. That keeps the app connected to the service people already use.
Rules
What a mobile app project in Canada has to handle
For private-sector commercial activity, federal privacy rules cover how personal information is collected, used and disclosed. That affects the account information and other personal data your app asks people to provide. We set up privacy information and consent in the app around the data the product collects, and plan the account and data flows with you before they are built. The details should match how your business actually uses that information.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Ontario, and Eastern Time moves closer during daylight saving. The shared board gives both sides a place to leave decisions and feedback across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want customers or staff to complete, so we can define the work around it.
- 02
Design
Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff and tell us where they get stuck. Changing a screen at this stage costs much less effort than changing it after the build.
- 03
Build
We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight on iPhone or a Google Play testing track. Use the app yourself and share feedback from real tasks.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You provide the account access needed for the release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details make the first discussion more useful.
- User tasksList what people must do in the first release, in the order they do it.
- Existing systemsNote your website, booking, CRM or payment systems, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and app.
- Google Play accountNew personal accounts need a closed test with opted-in testers before production release.
- Login for reviewIf the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s submission review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development
The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the project needs.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Screen design
Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts from users bring moderation work, including reporting, blocking and filtering objectionable material.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Vaughan
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The scope of offline work and the state of your existing backend are major drivers. Showing previously loaded data without a signal is more modest than allowing offline edits and resolving conflicts later. A documented API can reduce the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch.
How should I choose an app developer?
Choose a developer who can explain what the app will do and how its performance will be measured. Ask what gives people a reason to install it: Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged website. Ask about analytics and crash reporting too, so you can see screen use, drop-off and device crashes.
What is included in mobile app development?
The work includes the app screens and flows, plus the backend and admin tools needed to support them. For notifications, we set up a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and in-app category settings. Ask for permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order.
Who owns the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name as well. That gives you control over the materials needed to move the app later, without having to recover them from an agency or freelancer.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan regular maintenance releases and check how people use the app after installation. Retention, drop-off during the main task and the crash-free rate show more than download counts alone. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
