Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
For an app built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining every screen separately.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits products that depend on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases, so the choice affects the work needed after the first release as well as the initial build.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It avoids store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. If store discovery or notifications are central to the task, discuss those limits before choosing this route.
Local
What Tampa businesses need from an app
Healthcare is part of Tampa’s economy. A clinic app might let patients book and pay while giving staff a view of the day’s schedule. Reminders also give patients a practical reason to use the app between booking and an appointment.
Construction businesses in Tampa have a different task. A field team needs forms, photos, signatures and location attached to each job, with records synced to the office when a signal returns. Decide which information staff must capture on site before choosing the screens.
Tampa is also home to the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa. An organisation whose users already return frequently to a web platform could use an app that shares its existing accounts, data and backend. That gives users a familiar starting point without creating a separate set of customer records.
Rules
What a US app project needs to handle
For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule sets WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the standard. That changes the screen design and testing work: we set up the app screens against that standard as part of the build, with accessibility considered in the flows people use.
For a US business that chooses Stripe to accept payments, we set up Stripe as the payment provider in the checkout. Decide what customers are buying before the checkout is designed, because the payment route also has to fit the app stores’ rules for the type of purchase.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback for us across the time difference.
- 01
Design
We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flow as well as the appearance, so the main task is clear to the person using it.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps identify screens to change while they are still designs, before those changes need to be made in a built app.
- 03
Test
You receive builds on your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Use the app for the tasks you expect customers or staff to carry out.
- 04
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You keep those accounts in your business’s hands while we manage the submission work.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the details that let us define the first release.
- User tasksPut the essential actions in the order a person would take them, from opening the app onwards.
- Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider; note which have an API and who has admin access.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects, for the app and its Apple store listing.
- Google Play accountIf you have a new personal account, plan for a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers before production release.
- Login for reviewHave a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple if the app has a login.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and work involved
The scope behind each screen drives the work as much as the screen itself.
Backend
A documented existing API reduces the build; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a piece of work as the app.
Offline editing
Showing last-loaded data without signal is modest work. Creating and editing records offline also needs later syncing and conflict handling.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details to meet Apple’s requirements.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with your app
Wrapping a website
Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Define a useful task people will perform in the app before building a shell around the website.
Putting login first
If significant account-based features are absent, let people use the app without signing in. Give them something useful to do before asking them to register.
Adding tracking late
When an analytics or advertising SDK goes into the app, update Google Play’s Data safety answers to cover the data that SDK collects.
Leaving deletion out
If people can create accounts, build an in-app deletion path. Apple requires people to be able to start deletion there; Google Play also requires a web link for deletion requests.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Tampa
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. Separate customer, driver and staff roles each need screens and permissions, while connections to a CRM, booking system, maps or hardware add setup, testing and failure handling. Once the scope is agreed, ask for a quote that makes those choices clear.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a developer who discusses the app, backend and staff tools together. Ask how your staff will edit content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts without calling a developer. That conversation shows whether the proposed scope covers the work needed to operate the product.
What is included when you build an app?
The work can include push notifications as well as the screens people use. We set up a sending service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging, rules for who receives each message and when, and in-app settings so users can turn off notification categories they do not want.
How do payments work inside an app?
The payment route depends on what you sell. Apple and Google Play require their in-app purchase or billing systems for digital content or subscriptions used in the app, subject to the stated storefront or regional alternatives. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment route.
Will I own the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. If those sit in an agency’s or freelancer’s name, moving the app to another developer later becomes harder.
What happens after the app launches?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track where people leave the main task and the crash-free rate, as well as how often they return.
