Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code between iOS and Android. It is a practical option when your app centres on accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. We usually use React Native, with native modules where a feature needs them; for an app that depends on deep device features, we go native.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. If you already have web developers, they can contribute to the code, and some logic can be shared with a React website. That gives your team a route into maintaining both products.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded app where you want screens to look identical across platforms. The trade-off is that your team needs to be comfortable working in Dart. We discuss the features and the people who will maintain the app before choosing an approach.
Local
What Swansea organisations need from an app
Swansea has a substantial service sector, including health organisations. If you manage appointments, an app needs to do more than show available slots: customers need booking, reminders and payments, while staff need a view of the day’s schedule. Agree which of those tasks belongs in the first release before adding other features.
Swansea University has a campus at Singleton Park. For a campus organisation managing maintenance or inspections, an app could give field teams job forms with photos, signatures and location details. The office would then receive the records when a connection returns. Decide which details staff need on each job before designing the form.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is ready between calls.

Discover
tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you, including the tasks the app needs to support.
- 02
Design
we prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows your customers and staff will use.
- 03
Prototype
put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps you change a screen before it is built.
- 04
Test
we send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app in real situations and tell us where a task gets stuck.
- 05
Release
we handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You keep control of those accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring these details to help us agree a useful first scope.
- List what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- Note the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider the app needs to connect to, plus API and admin access details.
- Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects, for the app and its store listing.
- Plan a working demo account and live backend for submission if the app has a login.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timetable?
The scope determines the design, build and testing work.
User types
customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
a payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and work to handle failures.
Screen design
custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

How should I choose an app developer?
Choose someone who can explain what your app offers beyond your website and how people will use it before signing in. Apple expects apps to offer more than a repackaged website, and asks apps without significant account-based features to allow use without a login. Discuss those choices before agreeing the scope.
What sits behind the app on a customer’s phone?
The app usually needs a backend for accounts and data, plus an admin panel for your staff. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. In the admin panel, staff can edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts without calling a developer.
How much offline capability should I plan for?
Start with the tasks people need when they lose signal. Showing the last loaded information is modest work. Allowing people to create or edit records offline is a larger piece of work: the app must sync changes later and handle conflicts when records have changed elsewhere.
Will I own the app and be able to move it later?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name as well. When those are held by an agency or freelancer, moving the app later becomes harder, even if you have been involved throughout development.
What happens after the app is launched?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, while native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
