What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?

For an app that needs to reach people on both iOS and Android, we usually use React Native. It shares a codebase across the platforms while rendering each platform’s own interface components. Web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React website. Where a feature needs it, we add a native module.

A native build suits an app that relies on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. Swift is used for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. The trade-off is that you have separate codebases to build and maintain, so the choice should follow what the app needs to do.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, though it needs packaging to appear in app stores; on iPhone, it can only ask to send notifications after someone adds it to their Home Screen. We assess the device features in your scope when choosing between React Native and a native build.

Local

What businesses in Wales need from an app

Tourism supports rural economies in Wales. A restaurant serving repeat visitors could use an app for reordering and loyalty, with saved payment details, a fast checkout and notifications sent at a useful moment. The ordering flow needs to be easy for a customer to return to.

Service industries are a major part of the Welsh economy. For an appointment business such as a salon or gym, booking and reminders give customers a way to manage visits, while a staff view shows the day’s schedule and payments.

Wales is also a net exporter of animal produce. For a business with delivery or inspection teams, an app could collect job forms, photos, signatures and location, then sync records to the office when a signal returns.

Rules

Language choices for your United Kingdom app

Welsh has official status in Wales. If your service needs screens in Welsh and English, we design the app’s screens and flows for iOS and Android with that choice in scope. Each language adds layout and testing work across the screens, including any tablet layouts or custom animation. Agree which content and actions need both languages before design begins, so the interface can accommodate them from the start.

How it runs

How an app development project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and keep track of decisions across that difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you, including the tasks the app needs to support.

  2. 02

    Design

We create iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You get to review the proposed flows while they are still designs.

  3. 03

    Test the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff and watch them use it. Screen changes are less costly at this stage than after the build.

  4. 04

    Build

We create the cross-platform app in React Native, adding native modules where a feature needs them. You can use the agreed screens and scope to review the work.

  5. 05

    Launch

We prepare the App Store and Google Play listings, submit the app and handle its release. Review the listing content with us before submission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

A few practical details will help us discuss the scope.

  • First releaseList what users must do, in the order they would do it.
  • Existing systemsNote the website, CRM, booking or payment systems involved, their APIs and who has admin access.
  • Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
  • Google Play testingNew personal developer accounts need a closed test before production release, so identify people who can take part.
  • Login for reviewIf the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of app development

The amount of work changes with what the app must do, including how it behaves without a signal.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Integrations

Each payment gateway, booking system or device such as a scanner adds setup, testing and failure handling.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Wrapping a website

Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Give people a useful app feature instead of putting the existing website inside an app shell.

  • Requiring sign-up too soon

Let people see and use the app where an account is not needed. Apple asks for this in apps without significant account-based features.

  • Adding an SDK without updating privacy answers

Check the store forms when analytics or advertising tools change. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover data collected by third-party SDKs.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Wales

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. The app itself, the backend that stores accounts and data, and the admin panel all contribute. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work; creating a backend and admin panel from scratch can be as substantial as building the app.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a company that can explain how your app will use data and how you will assess it after release. We build a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools. Retention and drop-off in the main task show how people use the product; the crash-free rate helps assess release stability.

Can the app share data with my website?

Yes. We can build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. If users can create accounts, the build also needs deletion paths: Apple requires people to start deletion in the app, while Google Play requires an in-app path and a web link for requesting deletion of the account and associated data.

Who owns the app and developer accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep those accounts in your control so the app is released through accounts belonging to you, while we carry out the submission work.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Regular maintenance releases keep that work in view.

How do you plan push notifications?

We set up a sending service and agree rules for who receives each message and when. We also provide in-app settings for notification categories. Ask for permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order; on Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
