Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?

A cross-platform app is a practical choice when your main tasks involve accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, sharing one codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you a shared foundation to maintain while still allowing for platform-specific work.

Native development suits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. It gives you that platform-specific access, but you have two codebases to build and maintain. A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool: it skips store review, though it needs packaging to appear in the stores, and an iPhone user must add it to the Home Screen before it can ask to send notifications.

We start with your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. That gives us a basis for choosing the build approach before screen design and development begin.

Local

What Bristol organisations might need from an app

Bristol’s creative, high-tech and low-carbon industries include work where staff may need to record information away from the office. If your team handles delivery, maintenance or inspection jobs, an app can give them forms, photos, signatures and location details on each job, with records synced when signal returns. That gives the office a way to work from the same job information.

Bristol also has the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. If your organisation already has a web platform that people use frequently, an app could reuse its accounts and data. We can build a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools, so staff and users work with information held in one place.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, so the shared board gives both sides a place to keep feedback and project work moving between calls.

    Discover

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before moving into the screen work.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can walk through the intended tasks and flag anything your users would find awkward.

  3. 03

    Build

We develop the app, its backend and the admin panel. You can identify the content and customer tasks your staff need to manage without calling a developer.

  4. 04

    Test

We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Try the main tasks in real use and share what needs attention.

  5. 05

    Release

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts for the product.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the following details to make the first scope discussion useful.

  • A short list of what users need to do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
  • The website, CRM, booking system, ERP software or payment provider involved, plus any API details and who holds admin access.
  • Plans for Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification, so start that process early.
  • A privacy policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
  • For an app with login, a plan for a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline?

The work behind a screen can be larger than the screen itself.

  • Offline work

Showing previously loaded data is modest work; creating and editing records offline also needs syncing and conflict handling.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than data loaded on request.

  • User-generated content

Posts or other contributions need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details to meet Apple’s requirements.

  • Notifications

Sending messages needs a service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings for users to switch off unwanted categories.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building your app

  • Forcing an early login

Let people see and use what they can before asking them to register. Apple expects access without login where significant account-based features are absent.

  • Asking for notification permission too soon

Make the request when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without reviewing privacy answers: Update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover data collected by third-party SDKs in the app.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Bristol

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include how many user types need their own screens and permissions, whether an existing backend has a documented API, and how much custom design or animation each screen needs. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain how the app will work for your users and how you will assess it after release. Ask how screens will follow iOS and Android conventions, and how you will see where users leave the main task and how often they return.

Can you add payments and subscriptions to the app?

Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The checkout route depends on what you sell: digital content and subscriptions used in the app generally use store billing, while physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway.

What happens if users create accounts in the app?

Users need a way to start deleting their accounts inside the app. Apple does not accept deactivation alone as a substitute. Google Play also requires a web link where people can request deletion of the account and associated data, so that web route needs to be part of the build.

Who owns the app and its code?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app harder to move when you want someone else to work on it.

What support is available after launch?

Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air without a store build. Changes to native code or permissions, and Expo SDK upgrades, still need a store release.
