App developers for Nottingham businesses
You get an app designed around the tasks your customers or staff need to complete. For your Nottingham business, we design iOS and Android screens, build accounts and admin tools, and handle store listings and submission. Our studio is in India. You work with us from screen design through to release, with the app’s data and administration considered alongside the screens people use.

Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
Cross-platform development suits many apps built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. React Native and Flutter share most code between iOS and Android, which reduces the amount of separate platform code you need to maintain. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components; some logic can also be shared with a React web app. We use React Native for most apps and add native modules where they are needed.
Flutter draws its own interface and suits a heavily branded, custom design where screens need to look identical across platforms. Your team would need to work in Dart. Native development in Swift and Kotlin fits products built on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is a separate codebase for each platform, with more to build and maintain. Your choice should follow the features the app needs and the code your team will be comfortable maintaining.
Local
What Nottingham organisations need from an app
Retail and leisure are among the city’s target development sectors. A shop or restaurant with repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty, saved payment details and a quick checkout. Appointment businesses such as salons or gyms need booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule.
BioCity houses science-based companies. Where a company has an inspection or maintenance field team, an app could give staff offline forms, photos, signatures and a location for each job, then sync records to the office when signal returns.
The city is also served by the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the Nottingham campus of the University of Law. An organisation developing a consumer product may want both app stores covered from a shared codebase, alongside analytics that show whether people return.
Rules
What a UK app project has to handle
If your app project includes a website that provides services, accessibility belongs in the website scope. Guidance on the Equality Act 2010 says service providers must make reasonable adjustments so disabled people can use their websites. We design the website screens for desktop and mobile with those adjustments in scope, then test the build on real devices and browsers. Agree the website requirements alongside the app requirements so the work is included in the project.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to review the work and leave feedback across that time difference.

Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before moving into the work.
- 02
Design
Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff and bring their feedback back to us. A screen is cheaper to change at this stage than after it has been built.
- 03
Test
Try development builds on your own phone. TestFlight on iPhone and Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks let you give feedback from real use.
- 04
Submit
We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You keep those accounts in your organisation’s name.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring a short list of the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they would do them.
- Existing systemsNote the website, CRM, booking, ERP and payment systems the app must work with.
- Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in the company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- Testing accessIf you have a new personal Google Play developer account, plan for its required closed test before production.
- Login accessFor an app with a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.
- Store accessIdentify who will manage your own developer accounts for listings, submission and review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of an app
The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the project needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and extra backend work.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app.
User content
If people post content, plan for filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Forcing sign-up too soon
Let people see value before asking them to register. Apps without significant account-based features should allow use without a login under Apple’s guidelines.
Asking for notification permission on first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK late
Update the store privacy answers as part of the change. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover data collected by third-party SDKs.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to pay someone to develop an app?
There is no fixed price for an app. The work changes substantially if people must create and edit records offline and sync them later with conflict handling, or if the app needs in-app purchases and subscriptions. Showing the last loaded data without a signal is a more modest offline requirement.
Which app developer should I choose?
Choose a developer who can explain how the app will serve users and connect to your existing systems. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. Check the proposed app offers more than a website wrapped in an app shell; Apple’s guidelines expect more.
Can my app send push notifications?
Yes. We build push notifications and plan the sending service, the rules for who receives each message and when, and in-app settings for switching off unwanted categories. Firebase Cloud Messaging is an example of a sending service. Agree the messages and settings as part of the app’s scope.
Who owns the app code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control of those assets if you decide to change how the app is maintained later. Keep a record of who in your organisation has access to the code and domain alongside the other project materials.
What happens after the app launches?
Plan maintenance releases and check how people use the app. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Tools such as Expo EAS Update can deliver JavaScript and content fixes without a store build, while native code changes need a store release. Track returning users and crash-free rate, not downloads alone.
Does an app with accounts need a delete option?
Yes. If people can create an account, Apple requires them to be able to start deleting it inside the app; deactivation alone is insufficient. Google Play also requires an in-app path to delete the account and associated data, plus a web link where people can request deletion. Include these routes in the account screens and backend scope.
