What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform app, a native app or a web app?

React Native is our usual choice. It shares a codebase across iOS and Android, while allowing native modules where a feature needs them. It suits apps built around familiar tasks such as booking, completing forms, browsing lists and making payments. You maintain shared code, while still designing screens for each platform.

Native development suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. It uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android, giving you separate platform codebases to build and maintain. That extra work is worth considering when the device features are central to what your users need to do.

A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen. Decide how people will find and use the product before choosing this route.

Local

What Northern Ireland organisations need from an app

Belfast has technology businesses, and a startup launching a consumer or marketplace product there needs coverage on both app stores. A shared codebase gives that team a way to reach both platforms, while analytics can show whether people return after installing.

Freight businesses working through the ports at Larne and Belfast have staff handling jobs away from an office. An app for those field teams needs job forms, photos, signatures and location records that sync when a signal returns.

Textile manufacturers are part of Northern Ireland's industrial mix. Where a manufacturer already has a web platform that customers use frequently, an app can give those customers access to the same accounts and data without creating a separate backend.

Rules

What a UK app project needs to handle

UK data protection is governed by the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Your app also needs a privacy policy that matches the data it collects. We set up a link to that policy inside the app and include it in the store listing.

For an app with account creation, Google Play requires a web link for deletion requests as well as an in-app deletion path. We set up the request page and link; services provided through a website need reasonable adjustments for disabled people under Equality Act guidance.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. The shared board keeps feedback and decisions visible between calls.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks your users need to complete.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screen designs and refine them with your feedback before coding. You can check the proposed flows with your team.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback gives you a chance to change screens before they are built.

  4. 04

    Build and test

You receive test builds on your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks, so you can comment on the app in use.

  5. 05

    Submit

If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple. Leave room in your launch plan for fixes and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring what you already have, including the decisions your team still needs to make.

  • Write down the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
  • List the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider the app needs to connect to, plus API and admin access details.
  • Start registering company developer accounts and arranging the D-U-N-S number needed for organisation verification.
  • Decide which notification categories people should receive and be able to switch off.
  • Identify the screens and drop-off points you want analytics and crash reporting to reveal.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of an app?

The work grows with the flows, connections and behaviour the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Integrations

Each payment gateway, booking system or connected device adds setup, testing and failure handling.

  • Checkout

Digital purchases and subscriptions need the stores' billing arrangements; physical goods and services need another payment route.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Wrapping a website

Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Define what people can do in the app before building the shell.

  • Forcing an early sign-in

Let people use the parts that do not need an account, so they can see value before registering.

  • Leaving privacy answers behind

Update the store privacy information when adding analytics or advertising tools, including data collected by those tools.

  • Putting access in an agency's name

Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business's name so the app is easier to move.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Northern Ireland

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to pay someone to develop an app?

There is no fixed price for an app. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch. Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens. Agree the scope before asking for a quote.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a team that handles the work you need and is clear about who controls the release. Ask who prepares the listings and whose developer accounts will be used. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts, keeping the release connected to your business.

What is included alongside the mobile app?

An app project usually includes the phone app, a backend and an admin panel. The backend stores accounts and data; the panel gives staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts without calling a developer. Agree which staff actions your release needs.

Can the app use the same backend as my website?

Yes. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. That gives you a shared place for customer accounts and data, instead of maintaining a separate set for each product. Bring details of your existing systems when discussing what needs to connect.

Who owns the app code and content?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives your business control of those assets after the project, including when you want to arrange further work on the product. Make ownership part of your discussion before you appoint a developer.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan regular maintenance releases. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, while native code changes and new permissions need a store release. Track retention and crash-free rate to assess how releases perform.
