Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform app, a native app or a web app?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code across iOS and Android. It suits products built around accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. We usually use React Native, which renders each platform’s own interface components; web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React website.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms. Your team would need to be comfortable working in Dart. We use native modules with React Native where needed, and go native when an app needs deep device features.
A progressive web app can suit an internal staff tool and avoids store review. It does not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them, though, and on an iPhone it can only request notification permission after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We help you choose around the device features and distribution your users need.
Market
What customers in the Netherlands expect
For shops and restaurants serving repeat customers, reordering and loyalty features need a fast checkout and notifications sent at a useful point. If customers pay for an order online, consider iDEAL, now shown as iDEAL | Wero: it lets consumers pay directly through their own bank. We plan the checkout and payment-provider connection around the payment methods you intend to offer.
Language affects the screens people use to complete those tasks. Dutch is the official language, while Dutch and Frisian are both official in Fryslân. Tell us which audience you serve so we can plan the screen and checkout text for the languages your app needs.
Rules
What an app project in the Netherlands has to handle
For an e-commerce app covered by Dutch accessibility requirements, we plan screens against WCAG 2.1 level AA and set up an easy-to-find, accessible accessibility statement. Check whether your business qualifies for the small-business exemption when we agree the scope; that affects how the requirements apply to your service.
If the project includes a website with tracking cookies, visitors must give explicit consent before those cookies are set. We set up a consent banner for that choice and avoid pre-ticked boxes. Functional and some analytical cookies have different treatment, so we identify what the website will use before setting them up.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 4h30m ahead of the Netherlands, or 3h30m during Central European Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and follow work across that difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We use that discussion to agree the scope with you, including the tasks the first release needs to support.
- 02
Design
We prepare the iOS and Android screens and flows. You review them and give feedback, so the designs can be refined before any code is written.
- 03
Test
We send builds to your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or Google Play testing tracks. You can try the flows in real use and tell us what needs attention.
- 04
Prepare submission
If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and keep the backend live for Apple’s review. Leave room to fix an issue and resubmit if needed.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You remain involved in the details presented to customers in each listing.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Have a privacy policy that matches what the app collects: Apple requires a link in both the store listing and the app.
- First-release tasksList what users need to do, in the order they will do it.
- Existing systemsNote your website, CRM, booking or payment tools, their APIs and who has admin access.
- Apple accountsPlan an in-app route to start deletion if users can create an account.
- Google Play accountsPlan account and data deletion in the app, plus a web request link.
- MeasurementDecide which screens and drop-offs to watch, and include analytics and crash reporting in the first release.
- Play testingIf you have a new personal developer account, prepare to recruit testers for the required closed test before production.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The scope determines how much needs to be designed, connected and tested.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Integrations
Payment gateways, booking systems, maps and hardware each add setup, testing and failure handling.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces the work; creating a backend and admin panel from scratch is often as large as building the app.
User-generated content
Filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details need to be planned for moderation.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with your app
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Plan useful app features before submitting.
Putting sign-up before any value
Let people use the app without logging in when significant account features do not require it.
Asking for notifications at first launch
Request permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Leaving access in an agency’s name
Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so the app is easier to move.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Netherlands
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include whether people need to edit records offline and sync them later, and how much the backend and staff admin panel must do. Showing previously loaded data offline is less work than resolving sync conflicts. We send a free quote once we agree the scope.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask who will design and build your app, and how you will discuss decisions with them. With us, you talk directly to the people doing the work. For a consumer or marketplace product, also ask how the app will cover both stores and show whether people return after installing it.
Can our app use the same accounts as our website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. An app becomes a useful option to explore when customers already use your web platform frequently and need access to those same accounts and data on a phone.
Can you add payments, subscriptions and notifications?
Yes. We set up in-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores, along with targeted push notifications. Payment type affects the build: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, but must not be used for physical goods or services such as groceries or transport.
Who owns the code and content?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives your business control over those assets after the build. We can also connect the app, website and admin tools to a shared backend, so agree which customer accounts and data each part of the product needs to use.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, iOS and Android updates, and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Review retention and the crash-free rate too, so you can see where people return, leave or experience crashes.
