Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code between iOS and Android. It is a practical fit when your main screens contain accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, with native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you a shared codebase while leaving room for platform-specific work.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. Web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. Ask about the parts you want to share early: your app screens and the systems behind them still need to be planned.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits products that depend on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features as soon as they launch. The trade-off is having separate codebases to build and maintain. Start with the tasks your users need to complete, then examine the device features those tasks require.
Local
What London organisations need from an app
London is a healthcare and education centre. A clinic with appointments needs patients to book, receive reminders and pay, while staff need a view of the day’s schedule. Those screens serve different people, so both the patient and staff tasks belong in the scope.
Manufacturing is part of London’s economy. For a manufacturing business with a maintenance team, an app can capture job forms, photos, signatures and location without signal, then sync the records to the office when a connection returns.
Citi Plaza has retail alongside offices and education providers. A shop serving repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and notifications timed around a useful customer action.
Rules
What a project in Canada has to handle
Canada’s federal private-sector privacy rules cover the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in commercial activity. We set up the account flow to tell users what information you collect, how you use it and when you disclose it. Decide what the app needs to collect before those screens are designed.
For payments, Stripe accepts business sign-ups in Canada. We set up checkout around what you sell: digital content and subscriptions used in the app generally need store billing, while physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Some storefronts or regions allow alternative options.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Eastern Time; the gap narrows by 1 hour during daylight saving time. Shared boards give you a place to leave feedback and see what is being worked on across that gap.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks users need to complete, so we can discuss what belongs in the release.
- 02
Design
We design iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You get a chance to review the screens and their flow.
- 03
Test
During development, you receive test builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Use them to give feedback from real use.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep access to those accounts available as we prepare the release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A short set of decisions and access details makes the first discussion more useful.
- User tasksList what people must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- Existing systemsNote your website, booking system, CRM or payment provider, whether each has an API and who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyHave a policy that matches what the app collects; it needs links in the app and store listing.
- TestersNew personal Google Play developer accounts need a closed test with at least 12 testers before production release.
- Login accessFor an app with a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and work involved
The scope of the screens and the systems behind them determines how much work the project needs.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner needs setup, testing and handling for failures.
Interface
Custom animation, multiple languages or tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Live features
Tracking or chat needs persistent connections and more backend work than data loaded on request.
Backend
A documented existing API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large as the app.
User content
Posts need filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details.
Questions
Asked by businesses in London
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing with later syncing and conflict handling takes more work than showing the last loaded data. Notifications also need a sending service, rules for recipients and timing, and settings for the categories users want to switch off. Agree those needs in the scope before requesting a quote.
How do you choose an app development company?
Choose a team that lets you speak directly to the people designing and building your product. Ask how they will make the app useful on its own: Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged website, and apps without significant account-based features should let people use them without logging in.
Can the app share data with our website?
Yes. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. If users can create accounts, we also build an in-app deletion path; Google Play additionally requires a web link for requesting account and data deletion.
Who owns the app after it is built?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move when you want someone else to work on it.
What happens after the app launches?
Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Check retention, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to see how people use each release.
