Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
Start with what people need to do on their phones. Cross-platform frameworks share most of the code between iOS and Android, which suits apps built around bookings, forms, lists, maps, payments and content. We usually use React Native and add native modules when a feature needs them. It gives you a shared codebase while leaving room for platform-specific work.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. If you already have a React web app, some logic can be shared, and web developers can contribute. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, making it a fit for a heavily branded design that needs to look the same across platforms. Your team would need to be comfortable working in Dart.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It suits deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features needed at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases. Put those requirements on the table early, so the choice reflects the app you need to maintain.
Local
What Kitchener organisations need from an app
Kitchener is the regional seat of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. For a municipal service that takes appointments, an app could give residents a booking flow and reminders, while staff use a view of the day’s schedule. That gives you a clear task to design around and a way for staff to see the appointments the app creates.
For a Kitchener manufacturer sending staff out on jobs, the useful detail may be an offline form with photos, signatures and location, followed by a sync to the office when signal returns. Manufacturing is Ontario’s principal industry, concentrated mainly in the Golden Horseshoe. If your customers also order repeatedly, a separate customer flow could support reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a quick checkout and well-timed notifications.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
For personal information collected in commercial activity, federal privacy rules affect what you collect and how you use it. We set up links to your privacy policy in the app and its store listing; you need a policy that matches the data the app actually collects. Agree those details before submission.
Payment flows need an early decision too. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. We can set up a card gateway for the latter, and businesses in Canada can sign up to accept payments with Stripe.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Canada, and the gap with Eastern Time changes during daylight saving time. Use the shared board to leave feedback and keep decisions visible across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want people to complete and the outcome you want the app to support.
- 02
Design
We create screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flow as a user would, from the first screen through the task.
- 03
Build and test
You receive test builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them in the situations you expect your customers or staff to encounter.
- 04
Prepare submission
If your app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple’s review. Leave room in the launch plan for a fix and resubmission.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep the accounts in your control while we carry out the release work.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have; we can use it to make the first discussion specific.
- A short list of the actions users need in the first release, in the order they will take them.
- Details of your website, CRM, booking system and payment provider, including available APIs and who holds admin access.
- Your company’s Apple and Google developer accounts; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start registration early.
- A decision about account deletionif people can create an account, they must also be able to start deleting it inside an iOS app.
- A list of analytics and advertising SDKs you intend to use, so their data collection is covered in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The work grows with the flows, systems and interface you need to build and test.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even if they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Interface variations
Custom animation, multiple languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Existing systems
A backend with a documented API reduces the work; building a backend and admin panel from scratch adds a substantial build alongside the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid before release
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Give people a useful app experience; a repackaged site risks rejection by Apple.
Making everyone sign up immediately
Let people use the app without logging in when it has no significant account-based features.
Requesting notification permission at first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The scope depends heavily on integrations with systems such as payments or booking, and on the level of offline work: displaying last-loaded data is less involved than editing records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that can explain how it will measure use and diagnose problems after release. Ask about analytics and crash reporting in the first release, including which screens people use and where they give up. Also ask how you will review retention and the crash-free rate after launch.
Can the app use the same data as my website?
Yes. We can build one backend for your app, website and admin tools, so customer accounts and data live in one place. Think through what staff need to do with that data: an admin panel can provide access to content editing, customer lookups, refunds and account blocking.
Who owns the code and content?
You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Before work starts, make sure the project scope identifies the assets you expect to retain and who needs access to them. That gives you a practical basis for managing your product after the initial build.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Android releases need particular attention: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent API level, and out-of-date apps become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Regular maintenance releases belong in the plan.
Can you add subscriptions and notification controls?
Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. For notifications, the work also includes a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app so people can switch off categories they do not want. Decide which messages have a clear purpose before adding them.
