Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?
A cross-platform app suits many products built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments and content. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android while adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you shared code to maintain without ruling out device-specific work. We choose native development when the app needs deep device features.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical across both platforms, but your team needs to be willing to work in Dart. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components, so web developers can contribute and some logic can be shared with a React website.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It avoids store review, although it will not appear in the stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. That constraint belongs in your decision if reminders are central to the work.
Local
What Hamilton organisations may need from an app
Hamilton’s manufacturing and service businesses may have staff completing maintenance or inspection jobs away from the office. An app for those teams needs forms, photos, signatures and location on each job. Decide how much offline work is needed: showing the last loaded information is a smaller task than editing records without signal and resolving conflicts when they sync.
The city is home to universities and a college. A startup building a consumer or marketplace product for that audience needs to reach both app stores and learn whether people return. A shared codebase provides a route to both platforms while the product is being tested with users.
Visitor attractions such as the Royal Botanical Gardens and Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum have booking and scheduling needs to consider. An app with bookings, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule gives the organisation a clear set of flows to discuss before design begins.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
For private-sector commercial activity, PIPEDA governs how personal information is collected, used and disclosed. That affects your account and data flows. We set up a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools, and plan the information collected around the uses you describe to customers.
Canada is a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments with Stripe. We plan the checkout around what you sell: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, while physical goods and services use a different payment route. Some regions allow alternative billing.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Ontario, and the gap changes when Eastern Time moves for daylight saving. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is being worked on between calls.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want people to complete and any existing systems it touches.
- 02
Design
We create screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Tell us where a screen or flow does not reflect how your users work.
- 03
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of real customers or staff. Their feedback can reveal confusing steps while a screen is still cheaper to change than a built feature.
- 04
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them for the tasks your customers or staff will perform and share what you find.
- 05
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review. You can check the listing content against the product your customers will receive.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have so we can discuss the first release.
- List the actions users must complete, in the order they will complete them.
- Note your website, booking software, CRM and payment provider, including API availability and who holds admin access.
- Check whether your Google Play account is a new personal account; these accounts need a closed test before production release.
- Prepare a privacy policy that reflects the information the app collects. Apple requires links in the listing and app.
- Identify who will hold the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development
The work grows with the flows and behaviour you include in the scope.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than data loaded on request.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User-generated content
Allowing people to post content adds moderation work, including reporting, blocking and filtering.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Plan useful app-specific tasks. Apple expects more than a repackaged site, and a wrapper risks rejection.
Asking for notification permission immediately
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without revisiting store answers: Update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover information collected by third-party SDKs.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Hamilton
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Backend work and connections to existing systems are major drivers: a payment gateway, booking system or hardware connection each needs setup, testing and failure handling. Accounts, data and admin tools also need to be planned around what your users actually do.
Which company should you choose for app development?
Choose a team that can explain how its proposed build fits your existing systems. For example, we can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. Ask how customer accounts and data will move between those parts, and what your staff will need to manage.
Are notifications and subscriptions included?
We build push notifications and in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. Notifications also need a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app so people can turn off categories they do not want. Agree those rules as part of the scope.
Who owns the app and developer accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We publish under your own developer accounts, including the store listings and submission. Keeping those accounts in your business’s name gives you control over the product and its store presence after release.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features after launch. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. We provide ongoing support after release.
What should the first release include?
Include analytics and crash reporting alongside the tasks users need to complete. Tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they leave and which devices crash. If users can create accounts, build account deletion into the app; Google Play also requires a web deletion-request link.
