Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
For an app built around accounts, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical option. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. It uses each platform’s own interface components. If you have web developers, their JavaScript or TypeScript experience can also be useful; some logic can be shared with a React web app.
A native build is worth considering when the app needs deep device features. A progressive web app is another option, particularly for staff tools: it avoids store review, although it will not appear in the stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We help you choose by agreeing the scope with you, then looking at the device features and distribution route the work needs.
Local
What London businesses need from an app
Technology companies in East London Tech City may already have a web platform their customers use frequently. An app can give those customers access to the same accounts and data, while reusing the existing backend. That gives you a useful question to settle early: which tasks do customers need to complete on their phones?
London’s visitor economy also includes shops, restaurants and appointment businesses serving repeat customers. A shop or restaurant app needs a quick route to reordering and checkout, with notifications that arrive at the right time. For a salon, booking and reminders need to connect with a staff view of the day’s schedule.
Rules
What a UK app project needs to handle
If your app project includes a website, its statistics cookies need a clear choice for visitors. UK rules permit cookies used solely for statistics without consent when people receive clear information and an easy way to object. We set up that information and objection control on the website. We also account for any analytics or advertising SDKs in the app when preparing Google Play’s Data safety answers, so the information covers data those SDKs collect.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. IST is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, so the board gives you a place to leave feedback and follow decisions across the time difference.
- 01
Design
We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check that the flows reflect how your customers work.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps us change screens before they are built, when changes cost less.
- 03
Build and test
We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them for real tasks and tell us where a flow is unclear.
- 04
Submit
If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and keep the backend live for Apple’s review. Leave room in the launch plan for a fix and resubmission if needed.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, including the details below.
- List the tasks users need in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Note the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Start registering company developer accounts; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects, for the app and its store listing.
- Plan the account deletion route and web request link if users can create accounts.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of app development
The scope changes both the build and the testing work.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or hardware connection needs setup, testing and handling for failures.
Interface
Custom animation, extra languages or tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Existing systems
A documented backend API can reduce the work; a new backend and admin panel add a substantial build alongside the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Give people useful app functionality. Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged site, and a shell risks rejection.
Putting sign-up before any value
Let people explore where account features are not significant. Apple’s guidelines ask for access without login in that situation.
Leaving assets in an agency’s name
Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so the app is easier to move.
Questions
Asked by businesses in London
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The work changes substantially if people need to create records offline and sync conflicting changes, or if you need live tracking or chat with persistent connections. We send you a free quote once the scope is agreed, so you can see what the proposed work covers.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that will discuss the screens, backend and ongoing work with you before you commit. Ask who will make design decisions and how you will give feedback. With us, you speak directly to the people who design and build your product, so questions can go to the people doing the work.
What is included in a mobile app build?
We design screens and flows for iOS and Android, and can include in-app purchases and subscriptions. Analytics and crash reporting belong in the first release: tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they leave and which devices crash.
Will I own the app and its store accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keeping those accounts in your business’s name means the published app remains connected to accounts you control, rather than accounts held by the studio.
What happens after the app launches?
Launch is followed by ongoing support, including bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Alongside maintenance, look at retention, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to assess how a release is working.
How do payments work inside the app?
The checkout depends on what you sell. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Google Play similarly requires its billing for digital goods and subscriptions, but not for physical goods or services.
