What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform or native?

Cross-platform is a practical starting point for apps built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content. React Native shares most code across iOS and Android while rendering each platform’s own interface components. It uses JavaScript or TypeScript, so web developers can contribute and some logic can be shared with a React website.

Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app that needs deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases. We generally use React Native and go native when deep device features call for it.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface and suits a custom design that should look identical across platforms, provided you are willing to work in Dart. For a staff tool, a progressive web app avoids store review, though it needs packaging to appear in stores and iPhone notification requests work only after it is added to the Home Screen.

Local

What Boston organisations need from an app

Boston has professional services and government organisations with staff who work away from a desk. A field app for inspections or maintenance can collect forms, photos, signatures and job locations, then sync them to the office when a signal returns.

For Boston biotechnology organisations, an app with accounts and records also needs an admin panel. Staff need a way to look up users and manage content without calling a developer each time.

Greater Boston attracts venture capital, and a startup developing a consumer or marketplace product needs to reach people on both phone platforms. A shared codebase gives the product a route into both stores while the team learns how people use it.

Rules

What a United States app project has to handle

If you are building an app for a state or local government body, accessibility changes the screen design. The applicable rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We use that standard as a requirement for the app screens and their flows, so accessibility is part of the design work. It belongs in the agreed scope alongside the tasks people need to complete in the app.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback for us to pick up across that difference.

  1. 01

    Discover and design

We learn about your audience and goals, agree the scope with you, then refine screen designs with your feedback before coding. You review the proposed flows and tell us where they need to change.

  2. 02

    Try a build

We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app yourself and share what you find.

  3. 03

    Prepare submission

If your app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend. Leave room for fixes and resubmission if a build is incomplete or crashes.

  4. 04

    Release

We handle the listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep those accounts in your business’s control.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring what you have; these details help us agree the work.

  • Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Google Play testingIf you have a new personal developer account, plan for the required closed test before production release.
  • Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects, for both the app and its Apple store listing.
  • Account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan an in-app deletion path and a web request link for Google Play.
  • Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking software and payment provider, including their APIs and who holds admin access.

Cost & time

What affects cost and time

The scope determines how much design, build and testing work is needed.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.

  • Integrations

Each payment gateway, booking system, map or connected device adds setup, testing and failure handling.

  • Backend

An existing backend with a documented API reduces work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app.

  • User content

Posts and other user-generated content need filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Give people useful app functionality. Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged site.

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK late

Update the store privacy answers as part of that change. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover data collected by third-party SDKs.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Boston

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. Offline editing and later syncing add work beyond showing previously loaded data; custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts also add design and testing. Agree the scope first, then ask us for a quote based on the screens and capabilities you need.

How do I choose an app development company?

Ask how you will keep control of the product after launch. Your business should hold the developer accounts, signing access and code repository, so moving the app later is practical. With us, you own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in.

Can the app share data with my website?

Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. That gives your team a common place for accounts and data, while people use the interface suited to their task. Bring details of the systems you already use when discussing the scope.

Can you add payments or subscriptions?

Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The type of purchase changes the checkout: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, while physical goods and services use a different payment route. Some regions allow alternative billing.

How should push notifications work?

Start with the messages people have a reason to receive. We build targeted push notifications, and the setup needs a sending service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging, rules for who receives each message and when, plus in-app settings where users can switch off unwanted categories.

What happens after the app launches?

We provide ongoing support for fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases for Android’s target API requirements, and watch retention, task drop-off and the crash-free rate to understand how people use the app and how a release performs.
