Mobile app developers for Belfast businesses
A mobile app gives your customers a way to use your service on their phones, with screens designed for iOS and Android, a backend for accounts and data, and push notifications where they serve a purpose. For your Belfast business, we build those parts around the tasks you want people to complete. At MSH Technologies, we work with you from our studio in India.

Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?
For an app built around bookings, forms, lists, payments or content, a cross-platform build is often a practical starting point. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. It uses each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can also be shared with a React website. That gives you common code to maintain while leaving room for platform-specific work.
A native build in Swift and Kotlin suits deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. You will have separate codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform choice: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a highly customised design intended to look the same across both platforms.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it needs packaging to appear in app stores. On iPhone, it can request notification permission only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We help you weigh those constraints when choosing your route.

What Belfast organisations need from an app
Tourism services in Belfast may need customers to book and pay on their phones, with reminders before an appointment and a staff view of the day’s schedule. Those screens give customers and staff different jobs to complete within the same service.
For inspection or maintenance work around Belfast’s shipyard and industrial contractors, a field app needs to capture forms, photos, signatures and locations on each job. Offline entry and syncing give staff a way to record work when a signal is unavailable and send it to the office later.
A team at one of Belfast’s universities planning a consumer product has a different brief: cover both app stores and measure whether people return after installing. That information helps the team see how the product is being used after launch.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time, so the shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across the time difference.

Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you, including the tasks the app needs to support.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review the flows and give feedback before code is written, while changes are still being made to designs.
- 03
Build and test
We send test builds to your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. You can try the app in real use and tell us what needs attention.
- 04
Prepare the release
We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, so you can see which screens people use, where they stop and which devices crash.
- 05
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain the accounts used to publish the app.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the details you have, and use these points to identify what still needs a decision.
- Developer accountsStart registration in your company’s name and check the D-U-N-S number needed for organisation verification.
- Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking software and payment provider, noting available APIs and who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the app and its store listing.
- Account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan how they will start deleting them inside the app. Deactivation alone is insufficient.
- Review accessFor an app with login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The scope determines the design, build and testing work involved.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, booking system, map or connected device needs setup, testing and a way to handle failures.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Screen variations
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing work across the affected screens.
User content
If people can post material, moderation needs to be designed and built, including filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website
An app shell around an existing site risks rejection by Apple and gives people little reason to install. Define useful app tasks before deciding on the build.
Requesting notifications immediately
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user permits them.
Adding tracking tools without checking privacy answers
Include data collected by third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price for every app. The number of user roles and the depth of offline work are major drivers: customer and staff flows need different screens and permissions, while offline editing needs syncing and conflict handling. Agreeing the scope gives you a basis for requesting a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Ask who will hold the developer accounts, signing access and code repository. These need to remain in your business’s name so the app is easier to move if you change suppliers. Check that this arrangement is clear before work begins, alongside the practical details of the proposed build.
Can the app use the same data as my website?
Yes. We can build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. This gives your team a shared place for customer accounts and data, instead of treating each interface as a separate system. Bring details of the existing website when you discuss the scope.
Will I own the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those assets if your needs change or you decide to work with someone else. Discuss the ownership and handover arrangements as part of the scope, before development starts.
What support does the app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features after release. Google Play also requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. We provide ongoing support for the app after launch.
How do I tell if people are using the app?
Look at how many people return after installing and where they drop out of the main task. Check the crash-free rate alongside those figures to see whether a release helped or hurt stability. This gives you a more useful view of continued use than downloads alone.
