What you get

What’s included in iOS app development

  • App design

Screens and flows that follow Apple's guidelines.

  • Build

A native or cross-platform app, depending on what your product needs.

  • Back end & APIs

Accounts, data and notifications connected to your systems.

  • App Store release

Store listing, review submission and fixes for any rejection.

  • Updates

New iOS versions, bug fixes and features after launch.

Tools we use: Swift, React Native, Expo, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build native or cross-platform?

Start with your audience. If your website analytics or customer surveys show that most target users carry iPhones, an iPhone-first release may be a useful choice. Check that evidence before you commit. For a product that needs Android soon, React Native or Flutter lets you share most of the code across both platforms. Where the framework does not cover a feature, native Swift modules can be added.

Also decide how the app should work on an iPad. You can scale up the iPhone layout, or design side-by-side panes for work at a desk or counter, such as ordering or field reporting. A dedicated layout gives those tasks more room, with extra design and testing work. If the app is for your own staff, private distribution through Apple Business or Apple School Manager is an option instead of a public listing. We help you choose a native or cross-platform build around what your product needs.

Market

Payment choices for buyers in Australia

Your checkout starts with what you sell. Digital content, features and subscriptions used inside the app require in-app purchase. Physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method, such as Apple Pay or card entry. We plan the checkout around that distinction.

PayID is another option to discuss when planning payments: it uses a mobile number, email address or ABN to address a payment through the New Payments Platform. For affected debit, prepaid and credit card payments on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks, we configure checkout without a card surcharge.

Rules

What an iOS project in Australia has to handle

If you provide health services, your business is covered by the Privacy Act regardless of turnover. We put a privacy policy link inside the app and in App Store Connect, with details of what the app collects, who receives it and how users request deletion.

Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at a minimum of Level AA for digital goods and services. We account for access in the screen design, including larger text, familiar system controls and VoiceOver labels.

How it runs

How an iOS app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 4h30m behind Brisbane; the shared board keeps questions and feedback visible across the difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks you need customers or staff to complete, so those tasks can shape the screens and connections.

  2. 02

    Test on your iPhone

We use TestFlight to install development builds on your device. You can work through the flows and give feedback; friendly customers can join as external testers after Apple reviews the first beta build.

  3. 03

    Prepare for review

If the app has a login, we provide reviewers with a working demo account and a live backend. We check for placeholder text, test content, broken links and crashes before submission.

  4. 04

    Submit the app

We prepare the App Store listing, submit it for review and fix anything raised in a rejection. You can review the listing material as it comes together.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Gather what you have; these details help shape the build and release.

  • Organisation detailsFor an organisation developer account, Apple asks for a D-U-N-S number, legal entity name and a working public website on your own domain.
  • Seller nameDecide which account type fits. An organisation account shows the company name on the App Store; an individual account shows the person’s legal name.
  • Listing materialGather an app name, subtitle, keywords, description, support URL and screenshots for the iPhone and iPad sizes you support.
  • Test accessArrange access to test versions of connected booking, CRM or payment systems so development builds do not touch live customer data.
  • Data detailsRecord what the app and its third-party SDKs collect. App Store Connect requires those privacy answers for the listing.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time of iOS app development

The scope determines how much design, build and testing work the app needs.

  • Apple surfaces

Dedicated iPad layouts, widgets, an Apple Watch app, Siri shortcuts and Live Activities each add work beyond the iPhone screens.

  • Subscriptions

In-app purchases need product setup, server-side checks, purchase restoration, upgrades and refund handling.

  • Device features

Bluetooth, NFC, camera scanning and background location take more build and testing effort than standard screens.

  • Backend and admin panel

These can be as substantial as the app itself. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with iOS app development

  • Putting sign-up before useful content

Let people use the app without logging in when it has no significant account-based features.

  • Sending promotional push notifications without consent

Provide an explicit marketing opt-in inside the app and a way to opt out there.

  • Asking for permissions without context

Explain why the app needs the camera, location, contacts or photos when the relevant task arises.

  • Adding an SDK without checking the listing

Review what each analytics or advertising SDK collects and update the App Store privacy answers.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Australia

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an iOS app?

There is no fixed price for every app. The scope can include an iPhone app, backend, staff admin panel and release setup; features such as Apple Pay, Wallet passes or HealthKit add their own design, code, testing and review work. Agree which parts you need before asking for a quote.

How should I choose an app development company?

Ask how the company handles release and changes after launch. We prepare the store listing, submit the app and fix issues raised in a rejection. We also handle new iOS versions, bug fixes and features after launch, so you can discuss those responsibilities before agreeing the work.

What happens if my app uses a third-party login?

If that is your main sign-in, Apple requires an equivalent option that collects only a name and email address and lets people keep their email private. Sign in with Apple is the usual way to meet the requirement. Include that choice when planning the account flow.

Is iPhone first a sensible choice for a new product?

It can be, when the audience you are testing with is iPhone-heavy. Startups testing a consumer idea sometimes launch on iPhone first and add Android after the product shows traction. Discuss that possible next step when choosing the initial build, so it is part of the decision.

Who owns the app code?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Before work starts, ask how you will receive and access those assets. That gives you a clear handover point to discuss alongside the screens and features you want included in the project.

What support does an iOS app need after launch?

Plan for iOS updates, bug fixes and new features. We handle that work after launch. Even a stable app needs rebuilding and retesting before an update can ship when Apple raises its minimum Xcode and SDK versions for uploads.
