Choosing
Which ecommerce platform should you choose?
Shopify is the simplest option to run when you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. Apps add features, but their subscriptions can become a recurring cost. Deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan, so check your checkout requirements before choosing it.
WooCommerce suits a team already using WordPress or managing a lot of content. It gives you control over code, data and hosting, with responsibility for updates, security and plugin compatibility. Agree who will look after those tasks. A custom or headless storefront can suit an unusual catalogue or checkout; Next.js is an option for that approach. We recommend a platform after learning about your products and operations, so the choice reflects the way your store needs to work.
Local
What Missouri businesses need from an online store
Missouri has agriculture, food processing and printing businesses. A food producer needs delivery zones and rates that reflect where its products can be sent, including restrictions on items that cannot ship to some areas. A printing business taking made-to-order work may need file uploads, previews or price rules that go beyond a size or colour choice.
Wholesale and retail trade are also part of Missouri's business mix. A retailer adding online sales to a physical shop needs stock synced with its till system and a click-and-collect option. A wholesaler needs a different buying flow: customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities, quote requests or ordering on account.
Rules
What a United States store needs to handle
Sales tax settings need attention when you sell across state lines: some states have no statewide sales tax. Tell us which tax treatment applies to your products and where you sell, and we set up the corresponding tax settings in checkout. Those decisions shape what the shopper sees before placing an order.
If you send commercial email, including to business customers, the message needs a valid physical postal address and a clear opt-out. We connect your email tool and set up the message details and opt-out handling, so those requirements are reflected in the emails you send.
How it runs
How an ecommerce project runs with us
We agree the scope with you and use your feedback as the work progresses. India time is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time to 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter; the difference is 1 hour less during daylight saving time. An agreed scope and clear feedback help keep work moving across that gap.
- 01
Design
We prepare product, collection and checkout page designs for desktop and mobile. You review them and give feedback before we write code.
- 02
Catalogue
We import a small product sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images; once the format is right, we import the full catalogue.
- 03
Testing
You place test orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases. Check stock, order emails and the way each order appears in the admin.
- 04
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, then provide ongoing support. Your launch setup gives you a basis for checking the store after it opens.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these materials and decisions for your store.
- Product photosKeep original high-resolution files, with consistent backgrounds and an image for each colour variant.
- PoliciesPrepare plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms content.
- Payment documentsGather registration, bank and identity details for a gateway account in your business's name.
- Tax and delivery decisionsCheck product taxes with your accountant and decide your couriers, delivery areas and charges.
- Account accessLocate domain, DNS, website, email, analytics and Google logins held in your business's name.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of development
The amount of design, data preparation and build work changes with your scope.
Product data
A clean spreadsheet is quicker to import than information scattered across an old store, supplier PDFs and photo threads.
Design approach
Adapting an existing theme is less work than creating a custom design for unusual products or a distinct brand.
Storefront approach
A headless storefront needs more build effort, and most later changes need a developer.
Migration scope
Moving products alone is different from also moving customers, order history, reviews, gift cards and redirects. Existing customers usually need a password reset email.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your store
Adding a plugin for every feature
Review what each app does and remove unused ones. Extra scripts, admin clutter, conflicts and recurring fees can accumulate.
Hiding delivery charges until checkout
Show estimates on product or cart pages so shoppers can see the likely cost earlier.
Overloading product pages
Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where they are needed.
Testing only in sandbox mode
Place a real low-value order using live payment settings, then refund it to check payment connections, currency settings and order emails.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Missouri
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does an ecommerce website cost to develop?
There is no fixed price. The work depends on catalogue complexity, including variants, bundles and custom options, as well as the integrations you need. A simple accounting export involves less work than stock and price synchronisation with an ERP or several marketplaces. We agree the scope with you before the build.
Which platform should I choose if I want to sell internationally?
Choose after deciding how the store should handle each market. You need to plan currencies, prices, tax display, duties, translated content and shipping options. Some platforms handle these in their core product, while others need extensions, so those requirements should be part of the platform comparison.
What is included in the store build?
We set up checkout and connect the store to the tools your operations need. Payment testing covers paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders, checking the order record, stock and customer email each time. We also connect accounting, ERP, email or marketplace tools to reduce manual handling across systems.
Will I own my store after it is built?
Yes. You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. If you are moving an existing store, we can also migrate products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it; that scope should be agreed before the work starts.
What should I check after launch?
Retest the full checkout after an app, plugin or theme change, and give staff separate logins with only the permissions they need. Track conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration.
Which payment gateways can you set up?
We support Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay and local gateways, subject to your country and platform. Choose a gateway by checking where your business is registered, the currencies you sell in and the payment methods your customers need. Compare settlement timing and the handling of refunds and disputes as well.
