Choosing
Which platform should you choose for your store?
Shopify suits a team that wants hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled as part of the service. Apps add features, although their subscriptions are a recurring commitment. If you need substantial checkout changes, check the plan restrictions before choosing it; deeper changes are limited to Shopify Plus.
WooCommerce suits a team already working in WordPress. A custom or headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, gives you room for an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led shop. That flexibility takes more build work, and most later changes need a developer.
An online marketplace is another sales channel to consider alongside your own store. It brings ready traffic, but the marketplace sets the rules and keeps the customer relationship. Your own store keeps customer data and margin, while leaving you responsible for attracting visitors. If you use both, stock syncing is part of the decision. We recommend a platform after understanding your products and operations.
Local
What Kerala businesses need from an online store
Food processing is among Kerala’s major industrial activities. If you sell processed products through social media or messages, a store gives customers a catalogue, online payment and order tracking instead of taking every order by hand. We organise collections and filters around the products, with pack choices recorded as variants that have their own price, stock and image.
Kerala’s cash crops include tea, coffee, pepper and cashew. If you sell products made from them through a physical shop as well as online, stock and collection arrangements need attention. We connect the store to the tools you use, while planning stock syncing with your shop’s till and options such as click and collect.
Rules
What an e-commerce project in India has to handle
India’s GST treatment differs between supplies within a state and supplies between states. We configure the store’s tax settings around the applicable supply cases, alongside shipping rates and payment settings, so those cases are represented at checkout.
E-commerce entities must prominently display their legal name, principal geographic address, website details, customer-care contacts and grievance-officer details. We set up space for those details on the store, using the information you provide. This gives shoppers a clear place to find the business and contact information they need.
How it runs
How an e-commerce project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. At MSH Technologies, the same team handles design, development and launch, so your decisions carry through the work.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, customers and goals. You explain how orders and products work today, and we agree the scope of the store with you.
- 02
Design
We design product, collection and checkout pages for desktop and mobile. You review the screens and give feedback before any code is written.
- 03
Import
We put in a small product sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images; once the format is right, we import the full catalogue.
- 04
Test
Before launch, you place test orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases. Check the stock, order emails and the way each order appears in the admin.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these details so we can discuss the store and its working requirements.
- A product spreadsheet with descriptions, prices, SKUs, variants, stock, categories, weights and package sizes. The last two affect delivery charges.
- Product photos with consistent backgrounds and proportions, several angles and an image for each colour. Keep the original files.
- Plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms policies.
- Registration, bank and identity documents for a payment account in your business’s name. Apply early; the provider decides approval.
- Access to your domain, DNS, existing site, email, analytics and Google accounts, held in your business’s name.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope of the store determines how much work goes into the build.
Integrations
An order export to accounting is smaller work than syncing stock and prices with an ERP or several marketplaces.
Migration
Moving products alone is a different task from moving customer records, order history, reviews, gift cards and redirects. Existing customers usually need a password reset.
Checkout and pricing rules
Delivery-date choices, gift messages, wholesale tiers and customer-specific catalogues add work to the build.
Markets
Selling into several countries adds decisions about currencies, duties, translated content and shipping; some platforms need extensions for these.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with your store
Unauthenticated order emails
Set up SPF or DKIM on the sending domain to reduce the risk of messages landing in spam.
Heavy product pages
Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where needed.
Late delivery charges and taxes
Show estimates on product or cart pages, so shoppers see likely costs before the final checkout step.
Sandbox-only testing
Place a real low-value order using live payment settings, then refund it. Check the order email and payment connection before customers use them.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Kerala
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an e-commerce website?
There is no fixed price for every store. The size and complexity of your catalogue, including variants, bundles or products sold by weight, affect the work. A custom design also takes more work than adapting an existing theme. Once we agree the scope, you can ask us for a quote.
How do you choose a payment gateway?
We choose it around your business registration, selling currencies and the methods your customers need. Compare cards, wallets, bank transfers, pay-later and cash on delivery, along with settlement, refunds and disputes. We support gateways including Stripe, Razorpay and PayPal, subject to the country and platform.
What is included in an online store build?
A store build covers the catalogue, cart, checkout, customer accounts, policy pages and the admin your team uses to manage orders. It also includes order emails. Plan the wording for confirmations, dispatch tracking, refunds, abandoned carts and password resets so it matches your actual policies and uses your store’s own domain.
Can you move my existing store to a new platform?
Yes. We can move products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. The move also needs a plan for old product and category URLs: map each one to the closest new page and use a permanent redirect, including for products you no longer sell.
Will I own the store after it is built?
You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. For day-to-day access, give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need. Retest the full checkout whenever an app, plugin or theme changes.
Can you support the store after launch?
Yes. Our launch and care work includes domain, email, analytics and search setup, followed by ongoing support. After launch, compare conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed with your figures from before the launch or migration.
