Choosing

Which platform should you choose?

Shopify suits you if you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. Apps add features, though their subscriptions are an ongoing expense; deeper checkout changes are limited to Shopify Plus. WooCommerce suits a team already using WordPress or publishing substantial content. You get control over code, data and hosting, but someone on your side needs to look after hosting, updates, security and plugin compatibility.

A headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, fits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led brand. It takes more build effort, and most later changes need a developer. We recommend a platform after learning about your products and operations. Your sales channels count too: a marketplace brings ready traffic but controls the customer relationship, while your own store keeps customer data and margin and needs to attract its own visitors. Some brands use both and sync stock.

Local

What Dubai businesses need from an online store

Dubai's economy centres on trade, tourism, aviation, financial services and real estate. For a retailer with a physical shop, adding online sales calls for stock to sync with the shop's till system, alongside an option such as click and collect. That gives your staff a clear way to manage stock across the shop and the website.

Jebel Ali port supports container traffic. A wholesaler or distributor selling to other businesses needs an ordering process that accommodates customer-specific prices, minimum quantities, quote requests and ordering on account.

Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City form a technology and media free-zone enclave. A brand selling through social media or messaging apps needs a catalogue, online payment and order tracking so its team can move away from taking each order by hand in chat.

Rules

What a United Arab Emirates store needs to handle

Modern Technology-Based Trade rules require a clear digital invoice for every transaction. We set up digital invoices as part of the order flow, so customers receive a clear record of what they bought.

For goods sold through UAE-registered e-commerce platforms, consumer protection rules require product or service information and supplier invoices in Arabic. We set up the relevant product information and supplier invoice content in Arabic, using the wording you supply for your products.

How it runs

How an e-commerce project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. IST is 1h30m ahead. We use the board to keep decisions and feedback visible across that difference, while calls give us space to discuss the details with you.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, customers and goals, then agree the store scope with you. Bring the questions and requirements your team already has so we can discuss them together.

  2. 02

    Design

We design product, collection and checkout pages for desktop and mobile around how your customers shop. You review the screens and give feedback before we write code.

  3. 03

    Build

We develop the agreed store using code or a CMS your team can edit, and test it on real devices and browsers. You can review how the build works.

  4. 04

    Test and launch

You place test orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases, checking stock, emails and the admin. We then set up the domain, email, analytics and search, followed by ongoing support.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

These materials and decisions help us plan the store around your operations.

  • Product photosGather original high-resolution files with consistent backgrounds and proportions, several angles and an image for each colour variant.
  • PoliciesPrepare plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms policies for shoppers and payment providers to review.
  • Payment documentsGather business registration, bank details and identity documents. Apply early for a gateway account in your business's name; the provider decides on approval.
  • Tax and delivery decisionsCheck product taxes and price display with your accountant. Decide your couriers, delivery areas, charges and cash-on-delivery offer.
  • Account accessGather business-owned logins for your domain, DNS, current site, email, analytics and Google accounts.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The work changes with the design, data and rules your store needs.

  • Design approach

Adapting an existing theme is less work than creating a custom design around unusual products or a distinct brand.

  • Product data

A clean spreadsheet is ready to import; details scattered across an old store, supplier PDFs and chat photos need cleaning first.

  • Checkout and markets

Delivery date pickers, wholesale pricing and markets with their own currency, language and tax setup add rules to configure.

  • Connections

Accounting, ERP, email and marketplace integrations add work to the store build.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid before launch

  • Testing only in sandbox mode

Place a real low-value order using live payment settings, then refund it. This checks for misconfigured webhooks, currency settings and order emails before customers encounter them.

  • Showing delivery and tax charges only at the final checkout step

Put estimates on product or cart pages so shoppers can see the likely cost earlier.

  • Overloading product pages

Compress oversized images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where needed. Stacked scripts and large files slow pages that carry much of the store's traffic.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Dubai

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does an e-commerce website cost to develop?

There is no fixed price. The size and complexity of your catalogue, the scope of any migration, and the apps your store needs all affect the work and ongoing costs. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed. Reviews, gift cards and redirects, for example, add to migration scope.

How do you choose between Shopify, WooCommerce and a custom store?

We choose after understanding your products and operations. Shopify is the simplest to run; WooCommerce suits a team already on WordPress. A custom store suits an unusual catalogue or checkout. Tell us how your staff add products and fulfil orders so the recommendation reflects the work they do in the store.

What is included in an e-commerce build?

The build covers the catalogue, pages, cart, checkout and the admin your team uses, as well as customer accounts, policy pages and order emails. We organise product attributes into filters and variants, each with its own price, SKU, stock and image. Order and dispatch emails use your branding and policy wording.

Which payment gateway should my store use?

The choice depends on where your business is registered, the currencies you sell in and the methods your customers need. We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways according to the country and platform. Compare settlement timing and the handling of refunds and disputes as well as cards, wallets and other payment methods.

Will I own my store after it is built?

You own your domain, content and code. That means your store is not locked to the team that built it. Keep those assets under your business's control so you can decide who works on the store and continue using your own content and code if your arrangements change.

What should I monitor after launch?

Track conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration. Retest the full checkout after an app, plugin or theme change. Give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need.
