Choosing
Should you customise a theme or build your own?
An existing theme is a practical starting point when its product and page layouts already suit what you sell. We can adjust it to fit your brand, with lighter setup and simpler theme updates later. A custom theme gives you more control over unusual products and a distinct design, though later layout changes will need development work.
Features deserve the same scrutiny. An app can add a function quickly, but it may bring a recurring fee, extra scripts and reliance on its maker. Custom code or a custom app can fit a specific requirement, with maintenance needed as Shopify changes. List the jobs you need the store to do before choosing either route.
If you sell across countries, one store can use markets for local-currency pricing, translations and international domains. Separate stores suit different catalogues or teams by country, or a need for payouts in different currencies. Your catalogue and operating setup should guide that choice.
Local
What Dubai businesses need from a Shopify store
For retailers in Dubai's trade economy, a store needs to make stock useful both online and in the shop. Shopify's point-of-sale app can work alongside the online store for that purpose. Collections also need attention: staff can select products manually, or use conditions such as product type and vendor to keep collections current. The automated route depends on consistent product data.
For direct-to-consumer brands in the technology and media businesses around Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, the brief may include a faster custom theme and connections for reviews, subscriptions and email flows. Those connections need to work with the store's data, so the product catalogue and the features attached to it should be discussed together.
Rules
What a United Arab Emirates store needs to handle
UAE consumer rules require product or service information and supplier invoices in Arabic. Online sellers must also give customers a clear digital invoice for every transaction. We set up Arabic product information and invoice content as part of the store build, with the details supplied for your business.
Personal-data rules also affect how the store handles customer information and cross-border transfers. We set up consent options for relevant data processing and a privacy page that reflects how your store uses customer data.
How it runs
How a Shopify development project runs with us
You speak directly to the people designing and building your store. IST is 1h30m ahead, so we use your feedback to keep decisions moving between remote conversations.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, customers and goals. We agree the store scope with you before design work starts, including the tasks your staff need to carry out.
- 02
Design
We prepare desktop and mobile page designs. You review them and give feedback before we write theme code, so the layouts can be refined while they are still designs.
- 03
Access
The store stays in your account. You approve our collaborator access, choose its permissions and remain able to remove them.
- 04
Build and review
We work on an unpublished theme copy. You preview and approve it before publication, while your live store continues trading.
- 05
Search setup
We build with clean product URLs, structured data and fast pages from launch. You can review the product information that goes into those pages.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the material you have so we can discuss the store scope.
- Your Shopify account and plan in the business's own name and billing.
- A product sheet with titles, descriptions, prices, SKUs, barcodes, weights, options and stock per location. Weights feed calculated shipping rates.
- Consistent photos for each colour or style, plus size charts, care instructions and specifications.
- Business and bank details for the chosen payment gateway, alongside your shipping, returns, privacy and terms policies. Review any generated policy templates.
- For a migration, exports of products, customers and orders, plus the URLs bringing the most traffic and sales.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope of the store determines the work involved.
Theme design
A custom theme calls for design around your brand and a mobile-focused build.
Catalogue structure
Bundles, made-to-order choices and products with extra options add setup and theme work.
Product specifications
Metafields for dimensions, care instructions or size charts need structured fields and sections in the theme.
Migration
Moving products, customers and orders from another platform also involves putting redirects in place.
Checkout rules
Changes such as hiding a delivery option or blocking an order that breaks a rule need back-end logic.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with Shopify development
Missing migration redirects
Map old URLs to their new destinations and import the map at launch. Redirects only work from URLs that no longer load a page.
Too many apps
Check what each app adds to the page and its subscription cost. Inspect theme files when removing one, as code can be left behind.
Loose catalogue data
Keep tags, product types and vendors consistent. Automated collections and filters read those fields, so inconsistent entries can hide or misplace products.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Dubai
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the theme route, how much existing store data needs moving, and any custom business logic. Public apps with Shopify Functions work on any plan; custom apps containing Shopify Function APIs need Shopify Plus. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Can I hire someone to build a store my staff can run?
Yes. We set up the store and train your team to manage orders, products and discounts at handover. Shopify also suits first-time online sellers who want their staff to run the store without managing hosting, security or software updates themselves.
Can a product have a personalisation field?
Yes. Shopify allows up to three options per product, such as size, colour and material. A fourth choice, such as engraving text or a custom length, needs line item properties in the theme or an app. Tell us what customers need to enter when we discuss the product setup.
How should I choose a payment gateway?
Compare the total cost per order across the gateways available to your business. A third-party gateway carries an extra Shopify transaction fee, even when Shopify Payments is also active. The gateway choice belongs in the store discussion because payment configuration forms part of the setup for your market.
Will I own the store after handover?
You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. After handover, review staff accounts, installed apps and collaborator access from time to time, and remove access or apps that are no longer used. Shopify also expires unused collaborator access.
What support is available after launch?
Ongoing support follows launch from the same people who designed and built the store. You can also use Shopify reports to review conversion rate, cart abandonment, average order value and returning customers, and Search Console to check organic clicks and product-page indexing.
