What it does

A Google Maps embed code generator saves you from the Google Maps share dialog, which produces a fixed-size iframe with no lazy loading and no accessible title. Enter an address or place name, choose zoom, map type and height, and the generator writes an iframe that fills its container, loads only when needed and carries a title for screen readers. The preview updates as you type, so you can confirm the pin lands on the right building before copying. A matching "get directions" link is included for buttons.

How to use it

  1. Type the address, business name or coordinates exactly as you would search in Google Maps.
  2. Adjust the zoom. 15 shows the surrounding streets; 17 or 18 focuses on the building.
  3. Pick road map, satellite or hybrid, and set the height in pixels.
  4. Keep "Responsive" and "Lazy load" on unless you have a reason not to.
  5. Copy the embed code into your page, and the directions link into a button if you want one.

How to read the result

The preview is the same iframe your visitors will see. If the pin is on the wrong block, refine the search text or paste coordinates; the embed shows whatever Google's search returns for that string.

The snippet length is shown as a sanity check. A responsive embed with lazy loading comes to roughly 400 characters: a wrapper div with position relative and a fixed height, and an iframe stretched to fill it with inset 0.

A map at 400px height with zoom 15 is a sensible default for a contact page. Zoom 12 shows the whole city, which helps a visitor who does not know the area but hides the exact street. Zoom 18 shows the building outline, useful for a shop in a mall.

The directions link opens Google Maps with your place as the destination and the visitor's current location as the start, which is what most people want from a "Get directions" button.

Pair the map with structured data from the local business schema generator so the address is also machine-readable, part of what we handle in website design and development.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Do I need a Google Maps API key?

Not for this embed. It uses the public maps URL with output=embed, which Google serves without a key or a billing account. You only need the Maps Embed API with a key if you want Street View, custom styling, directions panels or guaranteed terms for high-traffic commercial use.

The pin is in the wrong place. What can I do?

Make the search more specific. Add the building name, postcode or city, or paste coordinates in the form 19.0760, 72.8777, which Google reads exactly. Coordinates come from right-clicking the spot in Google Maps and copying the first line of the menu.

Does the map slow my page down?

A map iframe loads well over a megabyte of scripts and map tiles, so keep lazy loading on. The browser then only fetches it when the visitor scrolls near it. On a contact page that is usually fine; on a homepage consider a static image that links to Google Maps instead.
