Tools we use: WordPress, Gutenberg, Advanced Custom Fields, PHP, Cloudflare.
Choosing
Which WordPress setup should you choose?
Start with how your team wants to edit. The WordPress block editor, also called Gutenberg, suits varied pages built within your design rules. Custom blocks give editors options without adding a separate page builder. A custom theme with Advanced Custom Fields suits more structured content: editors fill in fields and the layout stays fixed.
A ready-made theme suits a small site with a modest brief. It takes configuration, though it can include features you do not use, and deep changes can be harder than building a custom theme. Elementor or Divi gives your team drag-and-drop freedom, but pages can be heavier, editors can break layouts and content can become tied to the builder.
The choice affects what your team can change later and how much control it has over each layout. We start by learning about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. That gives us a basis for choosing the editing approach before the design and build begin.
Local
What California organisations need from WordPress
California’s community colleges have substantial publishing needs. A college team needs an editor in which staff can add news, events and pages without asking a developer for help every time.
California’s agricultural industry includes dairy, almond and grape businesses. A producer starting to sell online needs product pages alongside its existing content; WooCommerce keeps the shop and content in the same WordPress administration area.
Hollywood’s film businesses have projects to present. Structured project entries give each item its own editing fields and keep its presentation consistent, so staff have a clear place to add the next project.
Rules
What a US WordPress site needs to handle
For a business open to the public, US guidance says the ADA covers goods and services offered on the web and points to WCAG as helpful guidance. We use that guidance when setting up page structure and navigation, so accessibility is considered in the build. We also use it to guide decisions about how content is presented, rather than leaving those decisions until the pages are ready to publish.
How it runs
How a WordPress project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across that time difference.
- 01
Build
We develop the site with code or a CMS your team can edit, and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the pages as they take shape and tell us where the content or presentation needs adjustment.
- 02
Stage
Changes, plugin updates and content entry are checked on a staging copy before they move to the live site. You can review that work before it is published.
- 03
Test editing
Your team reviews the editing screens as well as the finished pages. Try adding a page, a post and an image so you can see whether the setup suits the people who will use it.
- 04
Hand over
Editors get a walkthrough or short screen recordings covering pages and custom blocks, plus a note on settings to leave alone. Bring the people who will maintain the site into that handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, so we can discuss the scope around your team and your existing site.
- EditorsList who will update the site and what they change most often, such as news, team profiles or product pages.
- AccessGather administrator access to the current site, hosting and domain, plus a list of plugins your team relies on and what each does.
- HostingDecide whether to keep your host, move to managed WordPress hosting or ask for a recommendation based on traffic and support needs.
- Existing siteNote any speed, security or editing problems you want addressed.
- Member accessIf you offer memberships or courses, note the content and payments that need a login.
Cost & time
What affects cost and time
The work grows with the content, features and connections your site needs.
Editing structure
More custom blocks, post types and field groups mean more setup for the editing screens.
Features
Shops, memberships, bookings, courses and multiple languages add plugins, configuration and testing.
System connections
A CRM or ERP connection without a suitable existing plugin needs custom code.
Migration
The source and amount of content affect the work. Another WordPress site is generally simpler to move than a different CMS or a site that needs its page builder untangled.
Plugin selection
Each plugin adds code to maintain and a possible security weakness, so selection and future upkeep belong in the scope.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with WordPress
Adding a plugin for every small feature
Large plugin counts can slow the site, create conflicts and multiply updates. Give each plugin a clear job.
Putting off updates
Outdated plugins are a frequent route into hacked sites. Test updates on staging first to remove most of the risk.
Updating without a backup
Back up the site’s files and database before an upgrade, so you have a way to restore them if something breaks.
Giving everyone administrator access
Use editor and author roles for staff who do not need full control. That limits the damage if a login is stolen.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?
There is no fixed price. The scope changes with the choice between a custom theme and an adapted theme, and with plans for sales, memberships, courses or multiple languages. Those features shape the build through major plugins. Once we agree the scope, we can discuss a quote.
Is WordPress still worth using?
WordPress is an option if you want to redesign an existing site and move its content. We move content from the old site and set up redirects as part of migration. Discuss the existing pages and their destinations before the move, so redirects are included in the work.
What security work is included?
We choose the plugins the site needs, keep them updated and apply security hardening. Hardening includes limiting administrator accounts, using strong passwords with two-factor login, a firewall and current software. It also includes keeping backups away from the web server.
Who should control the site accounts?
Your business should keep the top administrator account, hosting and domain in its own name. That gives you control over the accounts needed to run the site. Remove access for staff and contractors when they leave, so old logins do not remain active.
What support is available after launch?
Our care plan covers updates, backups and monitoring. WordPress applies minor maintenance and security releases automatically on most sites by default, but plugin and theme updates usually still need someone to apply and check them. Agree who will handle that work after launch.
Should I choose managed WordPress hosting?
Managed WordPress hosting suits you if you want the host to handle server caching, backups and core updates. Basic shared hosting costs less, but is often slower and leaves more upkeep with you. Choose based on how much server maintenance you want your team to handle.
