Choosing
Which WordPress setup should you choose?
Start with the way your team publishes. The WordPress block editor suits a team that needs varied campaign and content pages within agreed design rules. Custom blocks give editors those building pieces without adding a separate page builder. For content with a fixed structure, a custom theme with Advanced Custom Fields gives editors fields to fill in while the page layout stays fixed.
A ready-made theme suits a small site with a modest brief. It takes less custom work to get started, though it can carry features you do not use and become harder to change deeply. Headless WordPress keeps WordPress for editing and uses a separate front end such as Next.js; it suits very fast pages or app-like features, but adds hosting complexity and leaves some plugins unable to work.
Hosting is a separate choice. Managed WordPress hosting suits you if you want the host to handle server caching, backups and core updates. Basic shared hosting costs less, but is often slower and leaves more upkeep with you. We learn about your audience and goals and agree the scope with you, so the setup follows the work your site needs to do.
Rules
What does a United States WordPress project need to handle?
For a business open to the public, US guidance says ADA Title III covers goods and services offered on the web and points to WCAG as helpful guidance. We use that guidance when setting up and reviewing your page templates.
State and local government websites have a WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirement. For those projects, we set up the site and its templates against that stated standard, with the content and editing workflow in view.
If your site supports commercial email, including business-to-business email, we set up email templates with a valid physical postal address and a clear opt-out. The workflow also needs to honour opt-out requests within 10 business days.
How it runs
How a WordPress development project runs with us
We work remotely from India over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time to 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter, so we keep decisions and review items on the board for you to pick up across the time difference.
- 01
Plan the content
We decide which content types, fields and blocks editors need before the theme takes shape. You identify the material your team will publish and help us establish how it should be organised.
- 02
Review the editing setup
You review editing screens as well as finished pages. A test session adding a page, a post and an image gives you a practical way to check the setup against your team's work.
- 03
Work on staging
Changes, plugin updates and content entry are checked on a staging copy before they move to the live site. You can review the work there before it goes live.
- 04
Prepare plugins
We select the plugins the site needs, keep them updated and apply security hardening. Your review of required features helps keep the plugin list tied to actual work.
- 05
Hand over editing
Your editors get a walkthrough or short screen recordings covering pages and custom blocks, along with a note on the settings they should leave alone.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather the people, access and content details that will shape the build.
- EditorsList who will update the site and what they change most, such as news or product pages.
- AccessHave administrator access ready for your current WordPress site, hosting and domain.
- ConnectionsList the CRM, email marketing, booking or payment accounts the site must connect to, and prepare access.
- HostingDecide if you want to keep your host, move to managed WordPress hosting or ask for a recommendation based on traffic and support needs.
- Structured contentBring examples of entries such as team members, projects, events or jobs that need consistent fields and presentation.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The scope determines how much design, configuration, coding and testing the project needs.
Theme
Building from a custom design takes more work than configuring an existing theme.
Editing setup
Each custom block, post type and field group adds work to the editor experience.
Site features
Shops, memberships, bookings, courses and several languages add major plugins, configuration and testing.
System connections
A CRM, ERP or other connection without a suitable existing plugin needs custom code.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with WordPress
Adding a plugin for every small feature
More plugins can slow the site, conflict with each other and increase update work. Check what each plugin does before adding it.
Making everyone an administrator
Give editors and authors lower roles. That limits the potential damage if a login is stolen and keeps broad access to the people who need it.
Storing everything in a page builder
Builder shortcodes can make content hard to move to another theme. Check how your content will be stored before choosing the editing setup.
Updating without a backup
Back up both the site files and database before an upgrade, so you have a copy to restore if something breaks.
Questions

How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?
There is no fixed price. The editing setup and the source and size of any content migration affect the work involved. Moving from another WordPress site is generally simpler than moving from a different CMS or untangling a page-builder site. A migration also needs redirects planned alongside the content move.
Do businesses still need WordPress developers?
WordPress development remains useful when your publishing work needs a site built around it. Publishers, schools and associations may need staff to post news, events and pages regularly. Marketing teams can use approved blocks to make campaign landing pages without waiting for a developer for each page.
Can I use WordPress for a shop or membership site?
Yes. WooCommerce can add a shop to WordPress while keeping content and shop administration in the same place. Membership organisations and course providers can use established plugins for logins, members-only content and payments. The right setup starts with identifying what visitors need to access or buy.
What security work is included in a WordPress build?
We select maintained plugins with a clear purpose and apply security hardening. That work covers limited administrator accounts, strong passwords with two-factor login, a firewall, current software and backups stored away from the web server. Each plugin adds code to update and a possible security weakness, so selection is part of the build.
Will I own my WordPress site?
Yes. Your business owns its domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the top administrator account, hosting and domain in the business's name, too. When staff or contractors leave, remove their access so the remaining accounts reflect who is responsible for the site.
Who looks after the site after launch?
Our care plan covers updates, backups and monitoring after launch. WordPress applies minor maintenance and security releases automatically on most sites by default, but plugin and theme updates usually still need someone to apply and check them. Agree who handles that work as part of your handover.
