Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. It offers a large choice of plugins, although someone needs to keep it updated for security. A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and freedom from template limits, with a developer handling structural changes.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that you want to manage alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later could mean rebuilding the site. A headless setup is another option: it combines a custom front end with a separate editor, but adds moving parts to host and maintain.
Start with who will make changes. We recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js site after understanding how your team works; a custom site can still have an editor for content. That gives you a practical basis for choosing before you commit to a build.
Local
What Wigan organisations need from their websites
Wigan has a food manufacturing facility operated by H. J. Heinz. If you run a manufacturing business, decide where each enquiry form should send its message and who will receive quote requests. The confirmation message should tell the visitor what happens next, and mobile visitors need a clear route to call or use WhatsApp when those options suit your team.
Wigan and Leigh College has campuses in Wigan. For an education organisation, a useful starting point is a sitemap that helps visitors find their way, followed by page designs reviewed on desktop and mobile. An editor for news and careers gives your staff a way to keep those sections current without training.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited company status. We include space for those details in the website build, so you can provide and check them before launch.
Service websites need reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page designs and build; WCAG provides levels for choosing that target.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time; the shared board keeps feedback and decisions visible between calls across that time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what you want visitors to do. We use those answers to shape the sitemap and agree the scope with you.
- 02
Plan the pages
We prepare wireframes before the visual design. You review what belongs on each page and its order, leaving colour decisions for the later design stage.
- 03
Build and test
We build the site in clean code or with an editable content management system, then test it on real devices and browsers. You can review the pages as they take shape.
- 04
Launch and hand over
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site. Have the relevant account access ready for this stage.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these details so we can plan the pages and access you need.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests or calls, and who handles each enquiry.
- Your services or products, ranked by business priority.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications.
- Real photos of your team, premises and completed work; book a photo shoot ahead if needed.
- Access details for the domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing?
The scope determines how much design, build and checking work is needed.
Design approach
An adapted template suits a simple brief, while a custom design involves work around specific brand, content or audience needs.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections add design, development and testing work.
Content migration
Moving old blog posts, news archives and downloads adds transfer and checking work.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Wigan
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The number of distinct page templates affects design and build effort, while gathering service descriptions, case studies and photos adds content work. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed, so you can see what the proposed work covers.
Can you use our existing branding?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. For the initial discussion, have your logo in a vector format such as SVG, AI or EPS, along with your brand colours and fonts if you have them.
What is included in a search-ready build?
It includes page titles and descriptions, a clear heading structure, an XML sitemap, structured data and fast pages. Search setup needs attention before launch: missing titles, a missing sitemap or an indexing block left on from development can keep a new site out of search results.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business name and grant access to the people working on the site. That way, you retain control of the accounts as well as the website itself.
What happens after the website launches?
We offer ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will update news, projects and job posts. Use analytics to track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, and check which pages those enquiries started from when reviewing the site.
