Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a website builder?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins give you options for extending the site, but someone needs to keep them updated. A custom Next.js site offers greater speed and security and can still include an editor. We recommend an approach after learning how your team works and what it needs to update.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. An adapted template also suits a simple site with a tight brief, provided its layouts are reworked around your actual content.
A headless setup connects a custom front end to a separate content editor. It is worth considering when your site needs speed and substantial editing, with the trade-off that there are more parts to host and maintain. Ask who will handle those parts before choosing it.
Local
What St Helens organisations need from a website
An industrial employer such as Pilkington has capabilities and products to explain to buyers. A useful brief for that kind of organisation includes product or capability pages, certifications and downloadable specifications. A quote form also needs enough detail for the recipient to understand the request and respond properly.
Visitor organisations such as the World of Glass and the North West Museum of Road Transport need a clear page structure that helps people understand what each attraction offers and how to get in touch. The project should identify who supplies the page content, who receives enquiries and what visitors see after submitting a form.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited company status. We set up space for those details in the site footer, using the information you provide.
Organisations providing services through a website must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and build towards it, including clear headings and labels for forms. The target can use the latest WCAG success criteria.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 5h30m ahead (4h30m during British Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October). The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across the working day.
- 01
Discover
You explain who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We use that to agree the scope and shape the sitemap.
- 02
Design
We prepare wireframes and page designs for desktop and mobile. You review them and give feedback before the designs are refined.
- 03
Build
We develop the site with clean code or a content management system your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Check
You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives the messages. This catches small errors before visitors see them.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details will help us agree what the site needs to do.
- Your services or products, ordered by which you most want to promote.
- Your logo in SVG, AI or EPS format, plus brand colours and fonts, or a note that these need creating.
- Websites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Login details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope and readiness of your materials shape the work involved.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections add design, build and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; copywriting, photography or translation add work.
Existing material
Moving blog posts, news archives and downloads from an old site adds migration and checking.
Brand
An existing logo and style guide need less design effort than a brand whose colours and typefaces are still being decided.

Questions
Asked by businesses in St Helens
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The amount of content to gather, the forms and enquiry routes you need, and the state of your existing brand all affect the scope. Decide who will supply service descriptions and photos early. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
How do I choose a website platform?
Start with who will update the site and how often. A platform needs to fit their working habits. Review the proposed pages on a phone as well as a desktop, and use real headings and paragraphs during design so you can see how the content fits.
What is included in the website handover?
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then give your team a walkthrough. The search setup also includes page titles and descriptions, a clear heading structure, an XML sitemap and structured data, so those elements are in place when the site launches.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people working on the site. That leaves you in control of the accounts if you change provider later.
What happens after the website launches?
We provide ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will update news, projects and job posts. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, and check which pages those enquiries started from.
