Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits you if your team publishes frequently and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins give you a wide choice of features, though you will need to keep them updated for security. Decide who will take responsibility for those updates before choosing it.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. You can still have an editor for content, but structural changes are better handled by a developer. A headless setup separates that editor from the custom front end; it suits heavy editing, with more moving parts to host and maintain.
Your design choice is separate. A custom design fits a particular brand, audience or content need; an adapted template suits a simpler site with a tight brief, provided it is reworked around your actual content. We recommend WordPress or Next.js after learning how your team works.
Local
What Maitland organisations need from a website
Maitland has a Hunter Institute of TAFE campus. A training organisation needs clear descriptions so visitors can understand what is offered, along with an enquiry route that reaches the right person. We set up contact and quote forms to go to the chosen inbox, with WhatsApp or click-to-call where useful. Decide who will supply the descriptions and photos before page design begins.
Local training facilities also focus on fields including building and construction and engineering. If your organisation has finished projects to show, a portfolio with photos and project details gives prospective visitors something concrete to assess. Choose the work you want to feature before deciding how those pages should be arranged.
Rules
What your Australian website needs to handle
Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at a minimum of Level AA for access to digital goods and services. We agree an accessibility target in your brief and use it to guide the page designs for desktop and mobile. That gives you a target to review while the design is being refined with your feedback, before the build begins. Record the target in the scope so everyone working on the site knows what has been agreed.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 4h30m behind Sydney, or 5h30m during daylight saving. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main outcome you want from the site and the people who need to approve it.
- 02
Plan and design
We prepare the sitemap, wireframes and page designs for desktop and mobile. Review the page content and priorities in the wireframes before giving feedback on the visual design.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in clean code or a content management system your team can edit, and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the pages as the content comes together.
- 04
Check
You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. This is your chance to catch small errors before visitors see them.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover. Have the people who will manage the site available for that walkthrough.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A little preparation helps us agree what belongs in the project.
- Brand filesGather your logo in vector format, plus your colours and fonts, or tell us what still needs creating.
- PrioritiesList your services or products in order of importance, so the home page and navigation reflect them.
- Account accessFind the logins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or identify who holds them.
- PhotosGather real images of your team, premises and completed work, and arrange any photography needed.
- EvidencePut case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships in a shared folder.
Cost & time
What affects website cost and timing
The work changes with the features, content and material you need to move.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections each add design, build and testing work.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; writing, photography or translation add work.
Migration
Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an existing site need moving and checking.
Search setup
Preparing page titles, descriptions, headings, the XML sitemap and structured data during the build takes less effort than fixing them later.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Maitland
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the number of distinct page templates, the content editor and the forms included in the scope. Pages sharing a template take less design and build effort than pages with different layouts. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Can you work with our existing brand?
Yes. We can build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare your brand assets for use on the web where needed. Bring the files you have to the discussion, along with any gaps you already know about, so those can be included in the scope.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people working on the site. That way, your business retains control of its own accounts.
How should we review the design before launch?
Review every page on a phone, as well as on a larger screen. Use real headings and paragraphs during the design review: placeholder text can hide layout problems that appear when the actual content is added. Check that search setup has not been left until after launch.
Who updates the website after launch?
Your team should decide who is responsible for updates such as news, projects and job posts. You can also use analytics to track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages those enquiries started from. Those tasks need an owner after handover.
