Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a website builder?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins offer plenty of choice, though the site needs regular updates to stay secure. A custom design fits when your brand, content or audience calls for something specific. An adapted template can suit a simpler site and a tight brief, provided the design is reworked around your actual content.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run on your own. The trade-off is less control over code and speed; moving away later can mean rebuilding the site. Before choosing, think about who will make changes and how much control they need. We learn how your team works before recommending WordPress or a custom Next.js site, so the editing arrangement fits the people who will use it.

What Cambridge organisations need from a website
Cambridge has software consultancy, research and development, and engineering activity. A consultancy needs service and partner pages that help prospective clients check expertise before getting in touch. A startup launching a product needs a plain explanation of what it does, with a way to book a demo or join a waitlist.
For a supplier at Cambridge Science Park, capability pages, certifications and downloadable specifications give buyers material to assess, while a quote form collects the details needed for a useful response. An engineering firm also needs project pages with photos and details of completed work.
The University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University serve students here. For organisations serving those audiences, a clear page structure and contact form give visitors a practical route from finding information to making an enquiry.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If you run a UK limited company, your site must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited-company status. We set up space for these details in the site footer. We also account for reasonable accessibility adjustments in the page design and build, including how visitors access content and forms.
For cookies used solely for statistics or appearance preferences, we set up clear information and an easy way for visitors to object. Those uses do not require consent under the stated UK rules.
How it runs
How your website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback across that time difference.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what you want visitors to do.
- 02
Plan
We make wireframes before visual design. Review the content and its order at this stage, while page priorities are still easy to discuss.
- 03
Design
We prepare desktop and mobile page designs and refine them with your feedback. Check the pages on a phone as well as a large screen.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in code or with an editor your team can use, then test it on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these materials so the discussion can start with your actual business and content.
- A ranked list of the services or products you want to feature.
- Your logo in vector format, brand colours and fonts, or a note that they still need creating.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each.
- Photos of your team, premises and finished work.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications.
- Access details for your domain, hosting, email and search accounts, or the contact who holds them.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time needed?
The work involved depends on what is ready and what the site needs to do.
Brand assets
An existing logo and style guide need less design work than colours, typefaces and a logo still being decided.
Content gathering
Service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos need owners; collecting them is part of the project work.
Content architecture
A separate editor paired with a custom front end gives you editing flexibility, but adds moving parts to host and maintain.
Real copy
Designing around placeholder text risks layouts needing rework when the final headings and paragraphs arrive.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Cambridge
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is a professionally built website still worth it?
It is worth considering when you need a clear place for people to assess your services and contact you. Keep the scope focused: service pages that your team can maintain are more useful than copying every page from an old site. After launch, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as enquiries.
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price for every site. Distinct page templates, features such as booking or a CRM connection, and the readiness of your copy and photos all affect the work. Shared templates take less effort than individually designed pages. Once the scope is agreed, ask us for a quote.
Can a custom website still have a content editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, so choosing custom development does not mean asking a developer to make every content change. It is also faster and more secure than WordPress. Think about which pages your team expects to update before settling on the editing setup.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. You talk directly to the people designing and building the site, so you can discuss how the handover will work and make sure the people responsible for the site know what they will receive.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support after launch. Alongside that support, decide who in your team will keep news, projects and job posts current. It is also worth checking the search setup: missing page titles, a missing sitemap or an indexing block left from development can keep a new site out of search results.
