Web application development for Chicago businesses
Get a web application with the accounts, data separation and TypeScript development your product needs. For a Chicago business, that could mean a subscription service with separate workspaces for each customer and clear roles for their users. At MSH Technologies, we are a studio in India, and we work with you to agree the feature list and build the product.

Choosing
Should you build a web app first?
A web app is a good first choice when people use your product at a desk or need to share it by link. A mobile app deserves consideration when the camera, location or daily notifications are central to how people use it. The choice affects which experience you design first and where development effort goes. For a web product with a rich interface, React and Next.js with TypeScript support using the same language across the front and back end. If your existing team works in PHP, Ruby or Python, Laravel, Rails or Django may fit their skills.
Hosting and data design are separate decisions. Managed platforms such as Vercel, Supabase and Firebase reduce setup and server upkeep; running directly on AWS or Google Cloud gives you more control, with more operations work. A shared database is simpler to run, while a separate database for each customer suits buyers with strict isolation or data-location requirements. We help you choose as we learn your business and agree the scope, before designing screens for your feedback.

What Chicago organisations need from a web app
Chicago's finance, commerce and technology firms may have a repeatable service they want to turn into a product. That means capturing their know-how in workflows, then giving each client a login and subscription. An internal dashboard also gives the team a place to manage users and plans, look at an account when a customer needs help, and switch features on or off without a code change.
The University of Chicago, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois Chicago are part of the city's education sector. An organisation with a new digital product needs a build that does not pull its staff away from daily work. Admin tools give its team a place to manage users, content and data after launch, with a clear view of the information it handles.
Rules
What a US web app project has to handle
For a business open to the public, US guidance says the ADA covers goods and services offered on the web and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. We use that guidance when designing flows and screens such as onboarding and settings, so accessibility is considered in the interface work.
Stripe lists the United States as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments. For a subscription product, we use a proven billing service such as Stripe Billing to handle payment edge cases; unusual pricing models can call for a custom build.
How it runs
How your web app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m (Eastern) to 13h30m (Pacific) ahead of the mainland US in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. Shared boards give you a place to review progress and leave feedback across that difference.
- 01
Scope
We turn your idea into a feature list with you and agree what the first version needs. This gives the build a defined starting point.
- 02
Build and review
We put each increment on a staging site. You try real tasks and approve changes before they reach your users.
- 03
Private beta
A small group of target users tries the product before public launch, helping you spot confusing steps and missing features while changes are still cheaper to make.
- 04
Launch preparation
We set up deployment, error tracking and backups before the product goes live. You have these in place when users start working with it.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you already know; these details help define the first version and the work around it.
- Existing assetsGather designs, prototypes, code repositories, domains and hosting accounts, with their admin access.
- Data constraintsNote the personal or sensitive data you expect to hold and any enterprise security reviews customers require.
- Current toolsList the competitors or tools your users piece together and what is missing from each.
- PricingBring your view on per-seat, per-usage or flat plans; it shapes billing and permissions.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope of your product determines how much needs to be designed, built and maintained.
Roles and permissions
More rules add work, especially when customers invite users and manage their own teams.
Billing rules
Usage charges, per-seat pricing, currencies, tax and invoicing each add decisions and implementation work.
Integrations and public APIs
Connections to other products need building; a customer-facing API also needs documentation and support.
Large data sets
Imports, exports and reports can need background jobs and careful performance work.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building a SaaS product
Rebuilding common services
Review proven sign-in, billing and permission services before spending the budget on custom versions.
Leaving separation until later
Design customer data separation into the first version to avoid a risky rewrite.
Releasing without a safety net
Use a staging environment and test backups so mistakes do not turn every release into a live incident.
Launching without product analytics
Track sign-ups, activation steps and feature use from the first release, so your team has evidence to work from.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Chicago
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much will a web app cost?
There is no fixed price for a web app. Subscription details such as trials, invoices and failed payments add work, as do enterprise requirements such as single sign-on, audit logs, data export and security questionnaires. The agreed scope determines which of those needs belong in your product.
Can you build a first version of my SaaS idea?
Yes. We help you decide what the first version must include, build it and plan what comes next. Pay particular attention to the first screens: onboarding, sample data and empty states influence whether a new user reaches the point where the product becomes useful.
Can you take over an existing web app?
Yes. We start by reviewing the code and infrastructure, then fix what matters most. Bring access to the existing work when you are ready to discuss it; the review gives us a basis for identifying the work to address before moving on to further changes.
What is included in account development?
Account work includes sign-up, login, teams, roles and subscription payments. Account flows also involve details such as password reset and email verification, each with its own emails and edge cases. Social sign-in or two-factor authentication may also be part of the account requirements.
Who owns the code and product data?
You do. The code, repositories, hosting accounts and data belong to you. That gives you ownership of the product's working assets, including the repository where its code is kept and the hosting accounts used to run it, when you work with us.
What happens after the app launches?
We set up the domain, email and analytics at launch, followed by ongoing support. Frameworks, libraries and hosting also need regular security updates, even when you are not adding features. Alongside revenue, you can track activation, retention and churn to see whether users reach value and keep returning.
