Choosing
Should you customise a theme or build one?
Customising an existing theme keeps setup lighter and makes later theme updates simpler. A custom theme suits unusual products or a distinct brand, with more freedom over the layout. The trade-off is that later layout changes need development work. Start by listing the product-page and collection-page changes you need, so you can judge which route fits the work ahead.
Apps add features quickly, but each one can bring a recurring fee, extra scripts and dependence on its maker. Custom code or a custom app fits a precise requirement, although it needs maintenance as Shopify changes. A headless storefront using Hydrogen or Next.js suits content-led brands or unusual buying flows; it gives up the theme editor, and apps that add features through the theme may not work with it.
For international selling, one store can manage local-currency prices, translations and international domains through markets. Separate stores suit different catalogues or teams per country, or payouts in different currencies. Also compare gateway costs: a third-party gateway carries an extra Shopify transaction fee, even when Shopify Payments is active.
Market
What buyers in Singapore expect at payment
For retailers with physical shops, the online store and Shopify's point-of-sale app can bring online and in-store stock into one system. That gives you a practical starting point for planning how products and stock are managed across both places.
PayNow Corporate lets businesses receive Singapore dollar funds through their UEN. SGQR combines accepted payment QR codes into a single label for merchants. We configure your store's payments for the market you sell in and include the methods available to your business in the payment plan; your in-store QR label is a separate part of that plan.
Rules
What a Shopify project in Singapore needs to handle
Where GST applies to your sales, the store's tax configuration needs to reflect the 9% rate. We set up the relevant tax settings alongside your products and shipping, so your team can review the amounts shown during the buying process.
If you send marketing messages to Singapore telephone numbers, the workflow needs a valid confirmation that each number is not listed in the Do Not Call Register before a specified message is sent. We set up the marketing workflow with that check in mind, so it is part of the process your team uses before sending.
How it runs
How a Shopify development project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 2h30m behind Singapore time, so the shared board gives you a place to review progress and leave feedback between calls.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, customers and goals. You tell us what the store needs to do, and we agree the scope together.
- 02
Design
We prepare desktop and mobile page designs. You review them and give feedback before we write theme code.
- 03
Build
Theme changes go onto an unpublished copy. You preview and approve the work before it is published, while the live store keeps trading.
- 04
Launch
We test on real devices and browsers, then handle domain, email, analytics and search setup. You review the store as it moves towards launch.
- 05
Handover
We show your team how to manage orders, products and discounts, so you can run those day-to-day tasks yourselves.

Gather the material that describes your catalogue, account and existing tools.
- AccountHave a Shopify account and plan in your business's own name and billing.

- Product contentGather consistent photos for each colour or style, plus size charts, care instructions and specifications.
- ToolsList your current or planned apps, including accounting and courier tools, and what each must do.
- Migration filesBring product, customer and order exports, plus the URLs that bring the most traffic and sales.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of Shopify development
The work involved changes with your catalogue, existing data and connected systems.
Catalogue structure
Extra product choices, bundles, made-to-order items and specifications stored in metafields add setup and theme work.
Migration depth
Moving products alone is lighter than also moving customer records, order history, reviews, gift cards and redirects.
Integrations and markets
ERP, accounting, warehouse or marketplace connections add work, especially with stock and price sync in both directions. Each market with its own prices, translations and shipping rates adds setup too.
Business logic
Custom rules need development and testing. Public apps with Shopify Functions work on any plan, while custom apps containing Shopify Function APIs need Shopify Plus.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with Shopify development
Skipping redirects
Shopify product and collection URLs use fixed paths. Map old URLs to their new destinations and import the redirects at launch; redirects work only from URLs that no longer load a page.
Adding an app for every small need
Apps can add scripts and subscriptions, and some leave code behind after removal. Check the theme files when uninstalling.
Editing the live theme
A mistake is visible to visitors immediately. Duplicate the theme, make changes on the copy, preview it and then publish.
Leaving demo content in place
Review placeholder policies and default notification wording before launch, alongside the theme's sample content.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Singapore
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?
There is no fixed price. The scope changes with the theme you need, the data you want moved from an existing platform and the apps or business systems you want connected. A custom mobile theme, for example, involves different work from configuring an existing store and testing its integrations.
Can I hire you to build a Shopify store for my team to manage?
Yes. We build the store and provide training so your team can manage orders, products and discounts after handover. For a growing direct-to-consumer brand, the scope might also include reviews, subscriptions and email flows connected to store data. Agree those requirements before work starts so the handover covers the tasks your team expects to own.
Can my product pages handle custom choices and specifications?
Yes. Shopify allows up to three options per product, such as size, colour and material. A fourth choice, such as engraving text, needs line item properties in the theme or an app. Metafields can also hold structured details such as dimensions, care instructions and size charts for display in their own sections.
Will I own the store and control developer access?
Yes. The store stays in your account, and you own your domain, content and code. A developer works through a collaborator account that you approve; you choose its permissions and can remove them at any time. That gives you control over access without locking your store to its original build team.
What support is available after launch?
Ongoing support follows launch from the same people who designed and built your store. Your team should also review installed apps, staff accounts and collaborator access from time to time, removing anything no longer used. Shopify expires collaborator access that goes unused, but your own review helps keep the access list relevant.
What should I review after the store goes live?
Use Shopify's reports to review conversion rate, cart abandonment, average order value and returning customers. In Search Console, check organic clicks and whether product pages are indexed. These give your team specific parts of the store to investigate when deciding what content or buying steps to review.
