Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code across iOS and Android. It is a practical fit when your app centres on accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content: those features do not automatically require separate apps built from the ground up. The shared codebase also gives your team a common place to maintain much of the app.
We usually build with React Native, using native modules where a particular feature needs them. When an app needs deep device features, we go native. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components; web developers can contribute, and some logic can also be shared with a React web app.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms. Your team’s willingness to work in Dart is part of that choice. Before settling on a framework, list the device features and screen designs your first release needs, then use those requirements to compare the work involved.
Market
What do app users in Singapore expect?
The useful features start with how people already deal with your business. A shop or restaurant serving repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and notifications sent at suitable times. A clinic, salon or gym has a different daily task: customers need to book, receive reminders and pay, while staff need a view of the day’s schedule.
For delivery, maintenance or inspection work, the app may be used by your staff instead of your customers. Forms, photos, signatures and job locations need to reach the office when signal returns. English is the main language of commercial affairs, so an English screen flow is a practical place to start when planning the language of your app.
Rules
What does a mobile app project in Singapore need to handle?
If you want to accept PayNow Corporate, we set up the checkout around your chosen payment flow, using your UEN to receive funds. Where your merchant payment options use SGQR, we set up the checkout to present the combined QR code. Decide which payment methods you accept before the checkout screens are finalised.
The item being sold also changes the checkout. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Google Play billing is required for in-app digital goods and subscriptions and must not be used for physical goods or services. We set up the relevant payment route in the app.
English, Mandarin Chinese, Malay and Tamil are official languages. Choose the languages your users need, and we set up the selected language options in the app’s screens.
How it runs
How a mobile app development project runs with us
We work remotely from India. IST is 2h30m behind Singapore time, so we use video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board to keep decisions and feedback moving across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks your users need to complete and tell us who will manage the app’s data.
- 02
Design
Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff and collect their feedback. Changing a screen at this stage is far cheaper than changing it after it has been built.
- 03
Test
Use development builds on your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or the internal or closed testing tracks on Google Play. Share what happens when you try real tasks, not just what you think of the screens.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You provide access to those accounts and review the listing details with us.
- 05
Prepare for review
If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room in your launch plan to fix a submission and send it again if needed.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical decisions will make the first conversation more useful.
- Write the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Register Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification, so start that process early.
- Check the closed-testing requirement if you plan to use a new personal Google Play developer account before releasing to production.
- Have a privacy policy that reflects the data the app collects. Apple requires a link in the store listing and inside the app.
- Decide what you need to learn after release. Analytics and crash reporting show screen use, drop-offs and device crashes.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development?
The scope determines the design, backend and testing work involved.
Existing backend
A documented API can reduce the work. Creating a backend and admin panel from scratch can be as large a task as building the app.
Offline work
Displaying the last loaded data without signal is modest work. Creating and editing records offline also needs later syncing and conflict handling.
Real-time features
Live tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Screen variations
Custom animation, several languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across the screens they affect.
User-generated content
Build in filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details when people can post content in the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Forcing registration too early
Let people use the app without logging in when it has no significant account-based features. They can see its value before being asked to create an account.
Adding an SDK without revisiting privacy answers
When you add analytics or advertising software, update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover the data that software collects.
Offering account deactivation only
If people can create an account, give them a way to start deleting it inside the app. Apple does not treat disabling an account as sufficient.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Singapore
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price for an app. The work depends heavily on the backend and staff admin tools you need, along with integrations such as a payment gateway, CRM, booking system or hardware. Each integration needs setup, testing and failure handling. Agreeing what the first release must do gives you a clearer scope for a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a company that can explain why your customers need an app and what it will let them do. If they already use your web platform frequently, shared accounts and data may make an app useful. Ask how the proposed app offers more than a repackaged website, since an app shell risks store rejection.
What is included in the app build?
We build the backend and APIs for accounts, data, notifications and admin tools, as well as the app itself. For push notifications, the work includes a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app so users can switch off categories they do not want.
Can the app use the same backend as my website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in the same place. That gives your staff and customers access to the same underlying information across those products. Tell us about your existing website and the data it already holds when you discuss the scope.
Who owns the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep your developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts or repositories held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move if you later decide to change who maintains it.
What support is available after launch?
Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Plan for maintenance releases: Google Play requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can use over-the-air updates, while native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
