What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?

React Native suits apps built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments and content. It shares most of the code across iOS and Android while using each platform’s own interface components. That gives you a shared codebase to maintain, although features that need deep access to a device may call for native development. We use React Native for most apps and go native when those device features make it necessary.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs screens to look identical across platforms. The trade-off is that your development team needs to work in Dart.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it needs packaging to appear in the app stores, and on an iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after being added to the Home Screen. If you do want a store app, give people a reason to install it: an app that only wraps your existing website risks rejection.

Local

What Worcester organisations need from an app

Worcester has independent shops and restaurants alongside major retail chains. If you serve repeat customers, an app could give them a quick route to reorder, use loyalty features and keep payment details for a fast checkout. Decide what a notification should tell them and when they should receive it, so it has a clear purpose for the customer.

The University of Worcester is another kind of organisation with a different set of potential users. For a field team carrying out inspections or maintenance, an app could capture forms, photos, signatures and locations on each job. Those records need to reach the office when a connection returns, so the work can continue where signal is unavailable.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to see the work and leave feedback across that difference.

  1. 01

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Tell us where a flow does not match how your customers or staff work.

  2. 02

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few real customers or staff. Their feedback helps identify screen changes while those changes are cheaper to make.

  3. 03

    Test

We get builds onto your phone through TestFlight or the Google Play testing tracks. Use the app and feed back on what happens in practice.

  4. 04

    Measure

We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, using tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to see screen use and device crashes.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review, and leave room for fixes and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the following details to help shape the first release.

  • List the actions users must complete, in the order they will do them.
  • Identify connected systems, their APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects; it needs links in the app and its Apple listing.
  • For a new personal Google Play account, plan a closed test before production release.
  • Keep developer accounts, signing access and the code repository in your business’s name.
  • Consider what people can use without signing in, especially if account features are limited.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and work involved

The scope determines how much design, development and testing the app needs.

  • Existing systems

A documented backend API saves work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and extra backend work.

  • Custom screens

Animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across the interface.

  • User content

If people post content, the app needs filtering, reporting, blocking and contact details for moderation.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Worcester

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the backend and admin tools, the level of offline working, and the rules and settings needed for notifications. For example, saving edits offline and resolving conflicts on sync takes more work than showing the last loaded data. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

How should I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain how the app will connect to your existing systems and who will own the finished work. We build a shared backend for an app, website and admin tools when that fits your project. You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in.

What does mobile app development include?

It includes the app build and the features agreed in your scope. We use a shared React Native codebase for iOS and Android, adding native modules where needed, and set up in-app purchases and subscriptions. Digital content used in the app follows store billing rules; physical goods and outside services need another payment method.

Who owns the app after it is built?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep a record of any analytics or advertising software added to the app too. Google Play’s Data safety answers need to cover data collected by those third-party tools, so the information needs updating when the app’s data collection changes.

What support does the app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features after release. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out using an over-the-air tool, while native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
