Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a website builder?
Start with who will update the site. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of its pages. Its plugins give you options, but the site needs regular updates to stay secure. A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages and a design without template limits, with a developer handling structural changes.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. That trade-off is worth discussing before you put substantial content into the site.
The design approach is a separate decision. A custom design fits a brand, audience or content with specific needs; an adapted template fits a simple site and a tight brief when it is reworked around your actual content. We learn how your team works before recommending WordPress or Next.js.
Local
What Worcester organisations need from their websites
Worcester has independent shops and restaurants alongside larger retailers. If you run one, your sitemap and mobile page designs need to help visitors find what you offer and get in touch. Decide where each enquiry goes, who receives it and what the confirmation says; those details belong in the build.
The University of Worcester, Worcester Sixth Form College and Heart of Worcestershire College also have information to keep current for their audiences. For an organisation managing pages, news and careers content, an editor gives the people responsible a way to make updates without training. Agree who will look after each area before the site is handed over.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited-company status. We set up space for those details in the site and ask you to supply them for publication.
Organisations providing services through a website must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page and form designs. The WCAG criteria have A, AA and AAA levels, so the target should be clear before design begins.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time; the shared board gives both sides a place to keep work moving across that difference.
- 01
Discovery
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what you want visitors to do. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 02
Wireframes
We put the content in page order. Review the priorities here, before colours enter the discussion.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in code or with an editable CMS and test it on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Pre-launch review
Proofread each page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. This is your chance to catch small errors before visitors see them.
- 05
Launch
We set up your domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, along with the names of the people who can fill the gaps.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests or job applications, and who handles each enquiry.
- A ranked list of services or products for the home page and navigation.
- Vector logo files, brand colours and fonts, or a note that they still need creating.
- Case studies, testimonials and client logos you have permission to show.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a reason for each choice.
- Domain, hosting, email and analytics logins, or the names of their holders.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope and readiness of your materials affect how much design, build and checking work is needed.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and development work; pages sharing a template need less.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the work smaller; writing, photography or translation adds to the scope.
Migration
Moving an old news archive, blog posts and downloads adds transfer and checking work.
Brand assets
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Worcester
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The scope of the pages, the time needed to gather content and the state of your brand assets all affect the work. Decide early who will provide service descriptions, team information and photos. We send a free quote once we have agreed the scope with you.
Can a custom website still have an editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, so choosing custom code does not mean every content change needs a developer. WordPress is suited to teams that edit a lot of content themselves; we recommend an approach after understanding how your team works.
What search setup should be included before launch?
Check that each page has a title, the site has a sitemap and any indexing block used during development has been removed. Leaving those tasks until after launch can keep a new site out of search results. Ask who is responsible for checking them before the site goes live.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own the domain, the content and the code, with no lock-in. Make sure the people responsible for the site know where those assets are held and who controls access, so your team can manage them after handover.
What should we manage after launch?
Assign someone to update news, projects and job posts, and review enquiries in analytics. Track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages visitors started from. Regular content ownership also helps prevent an old news post from making the site look unattended.
