App developers in San Jose for mobile apps

You get a mobile app with screens for iOS and Android, a backend for accounts and data, and help submitting it to the app stores. For your San Jose business, we can build both platforms from a shared React Native codebase. At MSH Technologies, we’re a studio in India, and we work with you remotely from design through release.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform or native app?

A cross-platform app suits many products built around accounts, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. Its screens use each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can also be shared with a React website. That gives your team less code to maintain across the platforms.

Native development fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. It gives you access to platform features, with separate iPhone and Android codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs screens to look alike on both platforms.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool that does not need a store listing. It skips store review, though it needs packaging to appear in the stores. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user has added it to the Home Screen. Start with the tasks people need to complete, then choose the format that supports them.

Local

What San Jose organisations need from an app

San Jose is home to headquarters for companies including Adobe and Cisco. A startup developing a consumer product in the same city needs to decide how it will reach people on both mobile platforms and learn if they return after installing. A shared codebase and analytics give that team a way to cover both stores while checking how the product is used.

San José State University is another local organisation with a large student audience. For a student-facing appointment service, the practical screens to consider are booking, reminders and payment, alongside a staff view of the day’s schedule. A shop or restaurant serving repeat customers has a different task: make reordering and checkout quick, with saved payment details and notifications sent at useful moments.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Pacific time, so the board gives you a place to leave feedback and see decisions across the time difference. You talk directly to the people designing and building your app.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task your customers or staff need to complete.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows as well as the appearance.

  3. 03

    Test the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of customers or staff and watch where they hesitate. A screen is cheaper to change before it has been built.

  4. 04

    Prepare for release

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You review the listing details and keep control of those accounts.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

A few decisions and materials will make the first conversation more useful.

  • List the actions users must complete in the first release, in the order they will take them.
  • Start registering your developer accounts in the company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
  • If you plan to use a new personal Google Play account, prepare for its required closed test before production.
  • Have a privacy policy that reflects the data your app collects; Apple requires links in the listing and app.
  • For an app with login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and work involved?

The scope of the app determines how much design, integration and testing work is needed.

  • Integrations

A payment gateway, booking system or scanner needs setup, testing and handling for failures.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving access with a supplier

Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so you can move the app later.

  • Adding a tracking tool without updating privacy details

Check the data collected by third-party software and include it in Google Play’s Data safety form.

  • Wrapping your website in an app shell

Plan useful app features beyond the existing site. A repackaged website risks rejection during Apple’s review.

Questions

Asked by businesses in San Jose

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price for every app. The number of user roles and the notifications you need affect the work: each role needs its own screens and permissions, while notifications need sending rules and user settings. Ask for a quote once the scope is agreed, with those items listed.

How should I choose an app development company?

Ask how the team will choose the technology and handle the first user experience. We usually recommend React Native for a shared codebase and native development for deep device features. Also discuss what people can do before signing up; apps without significant account-based features should allow use without login.

What is included in a mobile app project?

An app project includes the phone app and the systems behind it. Those can include a backend for accounts and data, plus an admin panel for staff to look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts. We also build a shared backend for an app, website and admin tools.

Who owns the app and store accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We publish under your own developer accounts, so the store listings and review process use accounts held by your business. Check access to those accounts as part of the project, alongside the handover of your code.

What happens after the app launches?

Plan for maintenance and measurement after release. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track where people leave the main task and whether they return, as well as the crash-free rate. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out without a new store build; native changes still need one.

What if users can create accounts in the app?

The build needs an account deletion path. Apple requires people who create an account to be able to start deleting it inside the app; disabling it alone is not enough. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path and a web link where people can request deletion.
