Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform, native or web app?
A cross-platform app suits products built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content. React Native shares most of the code between iOS and Android and uses each platform’s interface components. It is our usual choice: we add native modules when an individual feature needs them. A web developer can also contribute to React Native, and some logic can be shared with a React website.
Native development suits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. You get separate iPhone and Android codebases, so each needs its own development and maintenance. That extra work is worth considering early if the device feature is central to what people will use the app for.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool and skips store review. It does not appear in app stores unless packaged for them, though, and an iPhone user must add it to the Home Screen before it can ask to send notifications. Check those constraints against how your staff will find and use the tool.
Local
What San Diego businesses need from an app
Tourism is a major industry in San Diego. For an operator taking appointments, an app brief could include booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule. A restaurant serving repeat customers could prioritise reordering, saved payment details and a quick checkout, with notifications timed around a useful action.
International trade is also important to San Diego’s economy. A trade business whose customers already use its web platform might consider an app when use becomes frequent. We can build a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place instead of asking staff to manage separate records.
Rules
What a mobile app project in the United States has to handle
For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That changes the screen design and the checks planned for the build. We design the app’s screens and flows for iOS and Android, and set up the design work against that accessibility standard for a government project. Include the accessibility requirement in the scope so it is considered as the screens are designed.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and keep work moving across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree what belongs in the scope before the design work starts.
- 02
Design
We prepare screen designs and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Bring the people who will use or manage the app into that feedback.
- 03
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight on iPhone or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. You can try the app in real use and report what needs attention.
- 04
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts as the app moves towards release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Start with a short list of what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- System detailsList your website, booking software, CRM or payment provider, and note which have an API and who holds admin access.
- Developer accountsPlan to register Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- A demo loginIf the app has a login, prepare a working account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.
- TestersNew personal Google Play developer accounts need a closed test before production release.
- Account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The scope determines the design, backend and testing work.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Screen variations
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for Apple’s requirements.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged site. Plan an app experience that gives people a reason to install it.
Demanding sign-up too early
Let people see value before asking them to create an account. Apple asks apps without significant account-based features to permit use without login.
Asking for notification permission at launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing with later syncing needs more work than showing previously loaded data, while in-app purchases and subscriptions add payment work across the stores. We agree the scope with you before preparing a quote, so the features you need are clear.
Which app development company should I choose?
Choose a team that gives you control of the accounts and code, and makes room for feedback from real users. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name. Put a clickable prototype in front of customers or staff before the screens are built.
Is Flutter an option for my app?
Flutter is an option when you want a heavily branded, custom-designed interface and are prepared to work in Dart. It draws its own interface, so screens can look identical across platforms. Ask a prospective developer how that choice fits the design and the skills available to maintain the app.
What should be included in the first release?
Include analytics and crash reporting alongside the tasks users need to complete. Tools such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash. For notifications, plan the sending service, audience rules and settings for switching categories off.
Will I own the app’s code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We also handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. That gives your business control of the product and its store accounts if you decide to make changes with another team later.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan regular maintenance releases and check how the app is performing. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; out-of-date apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Watch retention, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate as well.
