Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
For an app built around accounts, bookings, payments, forms or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. React Native shares most of the code across iOS and Android. We usually use it for both platforms, adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you a shared codebase while keeping access to platform-specific features.
Native development suits deeper device features, heavy graphics or complex work in the background. It means separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain, so the extra platform-specific work needs to earn its place in the scope. We help you choose by looking at the features your app actually needs.
A progressive web app is another option, particularly for a staff tool. It skips store review, though it needs packaging to appear in app stores. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. That limit belongs in the decision if notifications are part of the task.
Local
What Raleigh businesses need from an app
Raleigh has businesses making electrical, medical, electronic and telecommunications equipment. A business with a maintenance or inspection team can give staff job forms, photos, signatures and location details in an app, with records syncing to the office when signal returns.
Raleigh is also a retail and grocery distribution centre. Shops with repeat customers need a quick route to reorder, saved payment details and loyalty features. Notifications work best when they relate to something the customer wants to do again.
The Research Triangle's technology and biotech research activity also makes Raleigh relevant to startups planning consumer products. An app for both stores needs a way to see whether users return after installing, so the team can learn from actual use.
Rules
What a US app project has to handle
If you sell through the app, we plan the checkout around what you sell. US businesses can sign up for Stripe, and we set up payment acceptance where it fits the purchase. On Google Play, digital goods and in-app subscriptions require Play billing; physical goods and services need a different payment route. Some regions allow alternative billing.
For a state or local government app, we plan the screens to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA under the ADA Title II rule. That requirement belongs in the screen design and testing work from the outset.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely from India, using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of the Eastern time zone, and the gap changes with daylight saving. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task your users need to complete and the systems involved.
- 02
Design
We refine iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff while screens are easier to change.
- 03
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them for real tasks and share what works or gets in the way.
- 04
Submit
We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. If the app uses a third-party analytics or advertising SDK, its data collection needs to be covered in Google Play's Data safety form.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather access details and information that will shape the build and store submission.
- Developer accountsStart registration in your company's name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider; note their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyHave one that matches the data the app collects, for the App Store listing and the app itself.
- Google Play testingNew personal developer accounts need a closed test before production release.
- Login accessFor submission, prepare a working demo account and live backend if the app has a login.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope determines how much design, backend and testing work the app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
User content
Posting features need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for moderation.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data is a smaller task than creating and editing records offline, then resolving conflicts during sync.

How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel add substantial scope. Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts also add design and testing. Once we agree the scope, we can prepare a quote.
How should you choose an app development company?
Choose a team that examines what users will do in the app. Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged website, so ask how the proposed features give people a reason to install it. Also discuss letting people explore before sign-up when significant account features are not needed.
Who owns the app code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Ask for those assets as part of your handover. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript, so web developers can contribute to that codebase, and some logic can be shared with a React web app.
What support does the app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. We provide ongoing support after launch. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out through an over-the-air update; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release. Track returning users and crash-free rate as well.
Can the app use the same backend as our website?
Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so they can serve the same product. For the first release, include analytics and crash reporting: tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they leave and which devices crash.
