Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
A cross-platform app suits services built around accounts, forms, lists, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you a shared foundation to maintain while leaving room for device-specific work.
Go native when the product depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. You then have separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it draws its own interface, which suits highly customised branding if your team is willing to work in Dart.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It avoids store review, but it will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can request notification permission only after someone adds it to the Home Screen, so check that limitation against how staff will use it.

How much does it cost to develop an app?
