Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
For an app built around accounts, bookings, forms, payments or content, a shared codebase is often a practical starting point. We use React Native to build for iOS and Android, adding native modules where the app needs them. Sharing code reduces the amount of platform-specific work your team has to maintain.
Native development gives you separate apps in Swift and Kotlin. It fits work involving deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background tasks or new platform features needed at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases, so the extra flexibility needs to serve a clear purpose.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily customised design that should look the same across both platforms. Your choice also affects the skills needed to maintain the app. Our design and development team works with you on that choice and handles the work through launch.
Local
What Houston organisations need from an app
Houston’s energy, manufacturing and transportation businesses may have people completing work away from an office. A field app can put job forms, photos, signatures and location details on a phone, then sync them to the office when a connection returns. The scope needs to describe what someone must record while they are offline.
Houston also has technology startup firms developing new products. A consumer or marketplace app needs coverage across both stores and analytics that show whether users return after trying it. Founders can use that information to decide which screens and flows need attention after release.
Rules
What US government apps have to handle
For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We set up the app’s screens with that standard as the build target, so accessibility is part of the screen design and development work from the outset. If you are commissioning an app for a government organisation, identify the people and services it needs to support when you agree the scope.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
India is ahead of mainland US time, with the difference changing seasonally. We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards, so you can leave feedback and decisions on the board across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You explain what users need to do, and we agree the scope with you before moving into design.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can review the flows and raise changes while the screens are still being shaped.
- 03
Test on your phone
We share development builds through TestFlight or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. You use the app on your own device and give feedback from that experience.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts while we carry out the release work.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details will help us agree a useful first scope.
- Write the actions users need in the first release, in the order they will take them.
- List the website, CRM, booking software or payment provider involved, their APIs and who has admin access.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app will collect, for the listing and the app.
- If you have a new personal Google Play developer account, prepare for its required closed test before production.
- For an app with login, plan a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The work grows with the flows, systems and backend your app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and extra backend work.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system, CRM or device adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel add substantial scope.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website
Give people a useful reason to install the app. A repackaged site risks rejection during Apple’s review.
Requiring sign-up too early
Let people see value before creating an account when the app does not need significant account-based features.
Requesting notifications immediately
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order; on Android 13 and later, notifications need the user’s permission.
Adding tracking without updating disclosures
Include data collected by analytics or advertising SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing and later syncing add more work than showing previously loaded data. User-generated content also needs moderation, including reporting and blocking tools. Once we agree the scope, we can prepare a quote based on the work your app needs.
How do I choose an app development company?
Ask who will design and build the app, how you will give feedback, and what information you will get after launch. With MSH Technologies, you talk directly to the people doing the work. Analytics and crash reporting in the first release can show screen use, drop-off and device crashes.
What is included in mobile app development?
We build the app and the backend for accounts, data, notifications and admin tools. We also set up push notifications. If users can create accounts, the app needs an in-app deletion route; Google Play also requires a web link where people can request account deletion.
Could a web app work instead of an app-store release?
A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and avoids store review. It does not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask for notification permission only after the user adds it to the Home Screen, so consider how staff will access it.
Will I own the app code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep ownership in mind when preparing the project: the app can share a backend with your website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place for the products you operate.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, new features and updates for iOS and Android versions. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, and older apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices.
