Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
We usually build with React Native. It uses one codebase for iOS and Android, with native modules where a feature needs them. Its JavaScript or TypeScript code renders each platform’s own interface components, and web developers can contribute. If you already have a React web app, some logic can be shared with it.
A native build makes sense when the app needs deep device features. Flutter is another option for a heavily branded interface: it uses Dart and draws its own screens, which can give both platforms the same appearance. That choice also means working in Dart, so consider who will maintain the app alongside your team.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It avoids store review, though it won’t appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Start with what people need to do and where they need to find the product.
Local
What Austin organisations need from an app
Austin’s technology businesses may already have customers using a web platform. When those customers return frequently, an app can give them access to the same accounts and data, using the existing backend. That gives you a starting point for deciding which tasks belong on a phone and which systems the app needs to connect to.
Austin also has pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. For an organisation with staff carrying out inspections, the useful mobile work may be capturing forms, photos, signatures and job locations away from the office. Syncing those records when a connection returns gives office staff access to the completed work; the required offline behaviour needs to be defined in the scope.
Rules
What a US mobile app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We set up the screen design work with that standard as its target. If your app allows account creation, we also build an in-app path to start deletion. Google Play requires a web deletion-request link as well, and its requirement covers the account’s associated data.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of the mainland United States, and the gap changes with daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across that time difference.

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before moving into design.
- 02
Design
Review the iOS and Android screens with us. We refine them with your feedback before writing code, so the flows are visible before the build begins.
- 03
Build
We develop the agreed product and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the work as the project moves towards launch.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts for your business.
- 05
Plan review
If the app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple’s submission review. Leave room in the launch plan for fixes and resubmission if needed.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the following details to make the scope discussion more useful.
- List the tasks users need in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Note the website, CRM, booking, ERP or payment systems involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Start the Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects, for the Apple listing and the app itself.
- Identify who controls any existing code repository and signing access, so these can stay with your business.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development
The amount of design, integration and testing work changes with the scope you agree.
Existing backend
A documented API reduces work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Integrations
Payment gateways, booking systems and hardware each need setup, testing and failure handling.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Plan filtering, reporting, blocking and contact details when people can post content.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Define useful app functionality before submission. Apple expects more than a repackaged website, and a shell gives people little reason to install it.
Forcing everyone to register immediately
Let people use the app without logging in when its main features do not need an account.
Adding a tracking SDK without updating store answers
Include data collected by third-party SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form whenever the app changes.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Austin
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. A native app can involve separate Swift and Kotlin codebases, while offline editing needs syncing and conflict handling. Showing the last loaded data without a signal is a smaller task. Agree those choices before asking for a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that will help you test the proposed screens with real users before building them. Put a clickable prototype in front of customers or staff and ask them to work through the main task. Changes at that stage cost less than changes after the screen is built.
Can the app use the same backend as my website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. Think about the admin work as well as the customer screens: staff may need to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts without asking a developer each time.
Who owns the app code and content?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That means those assets remain yours to take forward if you change who works on the product. Ask about ownership before work starts, and keep the details clear when you agree the project scope.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so maintenance releases need attention. Analytics and crash reporting help you see where people stop using a task and which devices are crashing.
Can you add payments and subscriptions to the app?
Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. On Google Play, digital goods and subscriptions sold inside the app require Play billing, while physical goods and services such as groceries, transport or event tickets must not use it. Some regions allow alternative billing.
