Ecommerce website development in Queensland

You get an online store with product and collection pages, a checkout, and payment and shipping settings built around how your customers buy. We work with you on the choices behind those pages, from delivery rates to the way orders are handled. At MSH Technologies, we build for Queensland clients from our studio in India, working with you as the store takes shape.

Choosing

Which platform should you choose for your store?

Shopify suits you if you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. Features are added through apps, so check their recurring subscriptions before choosing them. Deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan, which is worth checking early if your checkout needs unusual fields or rules.

WooCommerce fits a business already using WordPress, or one with substantial content and a preference for control over its code, data and hosting. That control brings ongoing work: someone needs to manage hosting, updates, security and compatibility between plugins. Decide who will take that on before committing to the platform.

A custom or headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, fits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led brand. It takes more build effort, and later changes generally need a developer. We recommend a platform after learning how your products and operations work, so the choice reflects what your team needs to manage.

Local

What Queensland businesses need from an online store

Queensland has mining and transportation businesses alongside other sectors. A supplier selling to those businesses may need a wholesale store with customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities and quote requests. We connect the store to accounting, ERP, email and marketplace tools so orders and stock do not have to be copied by hand across separate systems.

The state's primary industries include fruit and vegetable production, grain crops and wool. A producer moving orders from messages into a store needs a catalogue, online payment and order tracking. We organise products into collections and decide which attributes become filters or variants, with their own price, SKU, stock and image where needed.

Rules

What an Australian store needs to handle

Australian Consumer Law applies to businesses selling goods and services in Australia, and store policies cannot override consumer guarantees. We set up policy pages for returns and refunds that reflect those guarantees, alongside the cart, checkout and order settings your store needs.

Commercial email and text messages need customer permission, and unsubscribe requests must be honoured. We set up permission collection and connect your email tools so marketing sign-ups and unsubscribes have a clear place in the store workflow.

How it runs

How an e-commerce project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. IST is 4h30m behind Brisbane; the board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is moving between calls.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, customers and goals, then agree the store scope with you. Bring the questions your team faces when taking and fulfilling orders.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare desktop and mobile page designs. You review them and give feedback before coding starts, while changes to the page layouts are still easier to discuss.

  3. 03

    Catalogue

We import a small product sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images; once the format is right, we bring in the full catalogue.

  4. 04

    Test

You place orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases. Check the stock levels, customer emails and order records in the admin as well.

  5. 05

    Launch and care

We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, followed by ongoing support.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Gather these details before you agree the scope.

  • Product spreadsheetInclude names, descriptions, prices, SKUs, variants, stock, categories, weights and package sizes. Missing measurements can produce incorrect shipping charges.
  • PoliciesPrepare plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms pages. Payment providers may check them.
  • Payment account documentsGather business registration, bank and identity details, and apply in your business's name.
  • Tax and delivery decisionsCheck product taxes and price display with your accountant; choose couriers, delivery areas and charges.
  • Account accessLocate domain, DNS, website, email, analytics and Google logins held in your business's name.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The scope determines how much preparation and build work is needed.

  • Product data

A clean spreadsheet is quicker to import than information scattered across an old store, supplier PDFs and chat photos.

  • Custom rules

Delivery date pickers, gift messages, wholesale tiers and customer-specific catalogues add work to the build.

  • Migration

Moving customers, order history, reviews, gift cards and redirects adds scope beyond a product-only move. Plan a reset email, as customer passwords usually cannot move between platforms.

  • Integrations

An order export to accounting is smaller in scope than stock and price sync with an ERP or several marketplaces.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building your store

  • Losing old URLs during migration

Map each old product and category URL to its closest new page, including dropped products, and use server-side permanent 301 redirects.

  • Leaving delivery charges until checkout

Show delivery and tax estimates on product or cart pages so shoppers see likely costs earlier.

  • Slowing product pages

Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where they are needed.

  • Adding an app for every small feature

Review what each app or plugin does and remove those you no longer use to limit clutter, conflicts and recurring fees.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Queensland

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an e-commerce website?

There is no fixed price. The work depends on catalogue complexity, the scope of any migration and the markets you sell into. Variants, bundles or goods sold by weight add catalogue work; moving customer and order records adds migration work where the platforms allow it. Agreeing the scope makes a quote possible.

Should I use a marketplace or build my own store?

Your own store gives you control of customer data and margin, while a marketplace brings existing traffic but sets the rules and keeps the customer relationship. Your store still needs to attract its own visitors. You can also use both and sync stock, so selling through one does not require abandoning the other.

What is included in the checkout work?

We configure payment gateways and test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders. For each case, we check that the order record, stock level and customer email update correctly. Order confirmation, dispatch, refund, abandoned cart and password-reset emails need your branding, a sender on your domain and wording that matches your policies.

Will I own my store?

You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. Keep those assets under your business's control as the project progresses. That gives you the option to continue working with us or use another team for future changes.

What should we check after launch?

Retest the full checkout after every app, plugin or theme change, and give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need. Compare conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed with your figures from before launch or migration.

Which payment gateways can my store use?

We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways, subject to the country and platform you choose. Choose the gateway alongside the store platform and your operating needs. For order emails, also check your sending domain: SPF or DKIM authentication helps prevent messages landing in spam.
