Choosing
Which ecommerce platform should you choose?
Shopify suits you if you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. You can add features through apps, though their subscriptions add ongoing costs. Deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan, so check your checkout requirements before choosing it.
WooCommerce suits a store already on WordPress or one with a lot of content. It gives you control over code, data and hosting, but someone needs to look after hosting, security, updates and plugin compatibility. A custom storefront suits unusual catalogues or checkout requirements that need a different approach. We recommend an option after learning about your products and operations.
You can also sell through a marketplace alongside your own store. A marketplace brings ready traffic but sets the rules and keeps the customer relationship; your own store keeps customer data and margin, while leaving you responsible for attracting visitors. If you use both, stock needs to stay in sync.
Local
What Perth businesses need from an online store
Retailers around Hay Street and Murray Street adding online sales need their shop and website to agree on stock. For a retailer offering click and collect, the build also needs to make that fulfilment option clear to shoppers and workable for the team handling orders. We connect store tools so stock and orders do not have to be handled by hand across separate systems.
Wholesalers and distributors in industrial areas such as Welshpool and Kewdale may need customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities, quote requests or ordering on account. Those requirements affect the catalogue and the order process. Delivery needs planning too: we set up zones and rates, including conditions for products that cannot be shipped to certain areas.
Rules
What an Australian ecommerce project has to handle
GST applies to most goods and services sold or consumed in Australia. Your product and pricing decisions determine the tax settings; we configure those settings in the store alongside payment and shipping rates.
Australian Consumer Law applies to businesses selling goods and services in Australia, and store policies cannot override consumer guarantees. We include policy pages in the build so your returns and refund wording has a clear place in the buying process.
Commercial emails and texts require customer permission, and unsubscribe requests must be acted on within 5 working days. We set up the email connection around those consent and unsubscribe requirements.
How it runs
How an ecommerce development project runs with us
We work remotely from India over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 2h30m behind Perth; the shared board gives you a place to review progress and leave feedback across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, customers and goals. You tell us how products and orders work today, and we agree the store scope together.
- 02
Design
We prepare product, collection and checkout designs for desktop and mobile. You review and refine them with us before code is written.
- 03
Import
We put in a small product sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images before the full catalogue goes in, so corrections happen in the template.
- 04
Build and test
We build the store and test it on real devices and browsers. We also test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders, checking stock, order records and customer emails.
- 05
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, then provide ongoing support after launch.

Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of ecommerce development
The work changes with the design, systems and rules your store needs.
Design
Adapting a theme takes less work than a custom design for unusual products or a distinct brand.
Integrations
An accounting order export is smaller work than syncing stock and prices with an ERP or several marketplaces.
Migration
Moving customers, order history, reviews and gift cards adds scope beyond moving products alone. Plan a reset email, as customer passwords usually cannot move.
Store rules
Wholesale tiers, customer-specific catalogues and delivery date pickers add work to pricing or checkout.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with ecommerce development
Leaving charges until checkout
Show delivery and tax estimates on product or cart pages so shoppers see them earlier.
Testing only in a sandbox
Place a real low-value order with live payment settings, then refund it. Check the currency, order email and payment notifications.
Overloading product pages
Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where needed. Oversized files and extra scripts slow pages down.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Perth
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an ecommerce website?
There is no fixed price. Product data is a major driver: a clean spreadsheet is easier to import than information scattered across an old store, supplier PDFs and chat photos. Features added through apps or plugins also affect the work and can bring recurring fees. We agree the scope with you before preparing a quote.
Which payment gateway should I use?
Choose a gateway that supports your business location, selling currencies and the payment methods your customers need. We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways where the country and platform allow. Compare settlement timing as well as how each provider handles refunds and disputes before making the choice.
What else is included in the store build?
The build includes transactional emails for events such as order confirmation, dispatch, refunds and password resets. Each needs your branding, a sender address on your own domain and wording that matches your policies. We also build product pages with structured data, making them eligible for rich results in search.
Can you move my existing store to a new platform?
Yes. We can migrate products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. Before the move, map old product and category addresses to their closest new pages, including products you no longer sell. Server-side permanent redirects help direct visitors and search engines from the old addresses to the new ones.
Will I own my store after launch?
Yes. You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. Keep the relevant accounts in your business’s name as well: that gives your team access to the assets it needs to operate the store after handover.
What should we monitor after launch?
Track conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration. Retest the full checkout after an app, plugin or theme change. Give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need.
