A Stripe fee calculator shows how much Stripe keeps from a card payment and how much reaches your bank. It covers two regions: the standard US rate of 2.9% plus 30 cents, and Stripe India at 2% domestic or 3% international with 18% GST on the fee. It also runs in reverse. Tell it the net amount you want to receive and it gives the amount to charge so the fee is covered. Rates were last checked in October 2026; see Stripe's pricing page for the current figures.
How to use it
- Choose the account region: United States or India.
- Choose the direction: "I charge X" or "I want to receive X".
- Enter the amount.
- Tick "International card" if the customer's card was issued abroad, and "Currency conversion" if the charge settles in a different currency.
- Read the three stats, and copy the breakdown if you need to show it to a client.
How to read the result
A US account charging 100 dollars on a domestic card pays 2.90 in percentage fee plus 0.30 fixed, so 3.20 in total. The net is 96.80 and the effective rate is 3.2%, a little above the headline 2.9% because of the fixed fee. On a 10 dollar charge the fixed fee matters much more: the effective rate rises to 5.9%.
Switch to "I want to receive X" with 100 as the target and the answer is 103.30. Stripe takes 3.30 from that and you receive exactly 100.00.
For an Indian account charging 10,000 rupees on a domestic card, the fee is 200, GST on the fee is 36, and the net is 9,764. The effective rate is 2.36%, not 2%, because GST is charged on the fee. On an international card the fee rises to 300 plus 54 GST.

Questions
Frequently asked.
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
For a standard US account, 2.9% plus 30 cents on each successful domestic card payment. International cards add 1.5%, and currency conversion adds another 1%. Stripe India charges 2% on domestic cards and 3% on international cards, with 18% GST added on the fee itself. Rates were last checked October 2026.
Why is the amount to charge higher than net plus fee?
Because the percentage fee applies to the full amount charged, including the part that covers the fee. To receive 100 dollars net, you charge 103.30, not 103.20. The calculator solves this with a formula rather than adding the fee once, so the net lands exactly on your target.
Are these the rates on my account?
Not necessarily. Stripe offers custom pricing for larger volumes, some countries have different standard rates, and products like Billing, Tax or Radar add their own charges. Check the pricing page or your dashboard, and treat this as an estimate for standard card payments.
