WhatsApp chatbot development company in New Zealand

A WhatsApp chatbot gives your New Zealand customers a way to ask questions, place orders and book appointments in a conversation. We set up the WhatsApp Business API, build the chat flows and draw AI answers from your own information, with a route to a person when needed. From our studio in India, we work with you to shape those conversations around the questions your customers ask most.

Choosing

Should you choose menus or AI answers?

Start with the jobs customers want to finish. A menu-and-button bot suits fixed tasks such as checking order status, booking an appointment or finding opening hours. AI answers suit questions people phrase in many different ways. You can choose the approach around the conversations you need to handle, while keeping the experience clear for the person using it.

The platform choice is separate. A chatbot uses the WhatsApp Business Platform and an API to send and receive messages; it is a different product from the WhatsApp Business app used by small shops for manual conversations. You can build directly on Meta’s Cloud API or use a solution provider. A provider can add billing, integration support and customer support to the messaging service.

Ask us to help you choose the starting scope. We can discuss the questions you want the bot to answer, the tasks you want it to complete and the systems that need the information, so you have a practical basis for choosing a setup.

Market

What customers in New Zealand may expect

The useful starting point is the conversation your customers already want to have. Restaurants and food businesses need to take orders and table bookings; appointment businesses such as salons need bookings and reminders. Real estate and travel businesses need to capture leads from ads, qualify them with a few questions and pass them to sales staff.

If payment is part of your process, tell us which payment link and other systems you use when we discuss the integration. Stripe lists New Zealand among the countries where it supports businesses. The work involved in connecting a payment link also depends on the systems involved and whether they have usable APIs.

Rules

What a New Zealand chatbot project has to handle

The Privacy Act 2020 covers how organisations collect, store, use and share personal information. That affects the questions in your chat and where the answers go. We map the information the bot collects and its destination, then set up a link to your published privacy policy and the notices and consent requests applicable to your conversation. WhatsApp’s messaging policy also requires a published privacy policy, along with the notices and consents that applicable law demands.

How it runs

How a WhatsApp chatbot project runs with us

We work remotely with you over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India time is 6h30m behind New Zealand, or 7h30m behind during New Zealand daylight time. The shared board gives both sides a place to record questions and decisions as work moves between calls.

  1. 01

    Register

You choose a business display name for the number. We take it through display name verification; it appears at the top of chats and in the chat list after Meta approves it.

  2. 02

    Prepare templates

We draft and submit the messages you need to send outside the customer service window. Templates are reviewed when created or edited, so we submit them early in the build.

  3. 03

    Test

Your staff run real questions, orders and bookings through a test number. We check each handover to a person and confirm that leads and orders reach the connected systems correctly.

  4. 04

    Plan for launch

New business portfolios have a limit on unique users they can message outside the customer service window. We discuss the sending plan with you; business verification is one route to a higher limit, subject to Meta’s quality review.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring these details to the discussion so we can make decisions about registration and the scope of the conversation.

  • A business phone number you own, including its country and area code, that can receive a verification call or SMS.
  • Admin access to your own Meta business portfolio, held by someone in your business.
  • A decision about the bot’s number. Under standard registration, a number already used with WhatsApp must be deleted from WhatsApp before platform registration.
  • Details of what you sell, so we can check it against WhatsApp’s restricted categories.
  • Any categories that need particular attention, such as alcohol, medical products, gambling or dating services; limited exceptions apply.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timing of chatbot development

The scope determines the work involved, including the conversations to design, the systems to connect and the way your staff take over.

  • Conversation scope

The questions you want answered shape how many flows we need to design and review with you.

  • Connected systems

Sending leads and orders to a CRM, sheet or order system adds integration work to the chat itself.

  • Staff handover

A simple alert involves a different scope from a shared inbox with assignment, notes and reporting.

  • Orders and bookings

Capturing these inside chat adds tasks to design alongside the answers customers receive.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with a WhatsApp chatbot

  • Messaging without opt-in

Get confirmation that the person wants messages from your business. Unexpected messages can prompt blocks and reports that lower quality and lead to rate limits.

  • Hiding the route to a person

Give customers a prompt, clear escalation path, such as an in-chat transfer, phone number, email or support form.

  • Requesting sensitive payment details

Do not ask customers to share full payment card, financial account or personal ID card numbers in chat.

  • Collecting health details

Clinics should keep the bot to bookings and general questions where health information cannot be shared without heightened protection.

How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include whether you need fixed menus or AI answers, and the size and upkeep of your catalogue. AI adds source-content preparation, testing and limits; frequent stock or price changes can make automatic product-data synchronisation part of the scope.

Who owns the work after the project?

You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. That gives you ownership of the assets covered by the project. Keep a clear record of the domain, content and code included in your scope so your business knows what it holds.

What happens after the chatbot launches?

Review the conversations and improve the flows. Track conversations started, resolutions without staff, handovers, completed orders or bookings, and opt-outs against your earlier chat volumes. Review unanswered questions and handovers regularly, then add missing answers or flows. Also watch template quality and rewrite or retire messages that draw complaints.

Can the bot send a message whenever it needs to?

The message type depends on the customer service window. A customer message opens a 24-hour window and each new customer message resets it; outside that window, only approved templates can be sent. WhatsApp can also limit marketing templates a person receives, so an opted-in customer will not necessarily receive every campaign message.

Are there limits on using AI with WhatsApp?

Yes. Meta’s platform terms bar AI providers whose primary offering is a general-purpose assistant, while AI incidental or ancillary to a business’s own service falls outside that ban. If an AI provider is your solution provider, WhatsApp platform data cannot be used to train or improve AI systems, apart from fine-tuning a model for your exclusive use.

Will my chatbot get a blue checkmark?

A blue checkmark requires Official Business Account status; it does not come automatically with a chatbot. The requirements include a verified business portfolio, two-step verification, an approved display name and policy compliance. Meta reviews each request and can deny it, so keep that review separate from the conversation features you need.
