Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a website builder?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. It offers a large choice of plugins, although someone needs to keep the software updated for security. Before choosing it, think about who will add pages and maintain the site after launch.
A custom site built in Next.js suits a design that needs freedom from template limits, fast pages and tight security. It also means accepting that a developer will handle structural changes. A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone, but gives you less control over code and speed. Moving away later can mean rebuilding.
Your editing routine is the useful starting point. Tell us who will maintain the site and how often they expect to change it; we recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js build after understanding how your team works.

What Sheffield organisations need from a website
Sheffield’s reputation for metallurgy and steel-making makes capability pages useful for manufacturers and suppliers seeking business enquiries. You can show what you make, the certifications you hold and the specifications buyers need to download. A quote form should ask for enough detail for your team to respond properly, with messages sent to the right person.
Sheffield also has a theatre complex that includes the Crucible and the Lyceum. For a theatre organisation, a clear page structure helps visitors find the information they came for, while desktop and mobile designs give that information a usable layout. Contact details and enquiry handling need an owner too, so messages reach someone who can respond.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If you run a UK limited company, your website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited company status. We set up a space in the footer for those details, so they are available across the site. You will need to supply the correct company information.
Services provided through a website also need reasonable adjustments for disabled people under the Equality Act. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and build the pages against it; WCAG provides levels you can use when setting that target.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see work between calls.

Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, and note anything still to be prepared.
- Your logo in SVG, AI or EPS format, plus brand colours and fonts.
- A ranked list of the services or products you want to feature.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Login details for your domain, hosting, email and search tools, or the name of the person who holds them.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work; book a photo shoot ahead if needed.
- The action you want visitors to take and who handles each type of enquiry.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of a website project
The scope determines how much design, build and preparation work is needed.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need more design and build work; pages sharing a template need less.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, languages and CRM connections add design, development and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; writing, photography or translation adds work.
Brand assets
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your website
Waiting until the end to add content
Use real headings and paragraphs during design, since their length can change a layout.
Reviewing only on a large screen
Check every page on a phone before approving the design.
Copying every old page
Choose clear service pages your visitors can scan and your team can keep current.
Leaving search setup until launch
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Sheffield
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is it worth paying for website development?
It can be worth it when the site gives potential clients a clear way to understand your services and contact you. Agree what you want to measure first. You can track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks in analytics, then check which pages those enquiries started from.
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The page designs, search preparation and choice of content setup affect the work involved. For example, a separate editor with a custom front end adds hosting and maintenance parts. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Can a custom website still have a content editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, while WordPress suits teams that edit a lot of content themselves. Before choosing, decide who will update the site and how often. We use that information to recommend an option that fits the way your team works.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We can build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. The site can also include an editor for pages, news, projects and careers, so your team has a practical way to keep content current.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those parts of the site after handover. Keep a record of who in your organisation holds the relevant access details, so ownership remains practical when responsibilities change.
Do you provide support after launch?
Yes. Our process includes ongoing support after launch. It also helps to decide within your team who will update news, projects and job posts, so those pages remain current. Talk to us about the support your site will need as part of planning the work.
