Choosing
Which website platform should you choose?
Start with the people who will edit the site. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to change most content itself. Its plugins offer a wide choice of functions, although the site needs regular updates to stay secure. A custom-coded Next.js site suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits; structural changes usually need a developer.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that you want to run yourself. You give up some control over the code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. That trade-off is worth considering before you put substantial content into the site.
A custom Next.js site can still include an editor, so choosing custom code does not mean your team has to hand every content change to a developer. We recommend an approach after learning how your team works and how much content it expects to edit.
Local
What Scotland's businesses need from their websites
Edinburgh has major finance firms, while Glasgow is also a financial centre. For a Scottish financial services firm, the website needs to make its services and the people behind them easy to assess. Give each service and partner a page, with credentials a prospective client can check before making contact. That structure also helps you decide where an enquiry should go.
Scottish exporters of machinery and transport goods need visitors to find the products they are looking for without having to work through an unclear menu. With the European Union Scotland's largest international export market, an exporter can start by ranking its products for the navigation and home page, then agree who owns the content for each part of the site.
Rules
What a UK website project has to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited company status. We include space for those details in the site design, so you can supply and check them before launch.
Organisations providing services through a website must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page designs. WCAG has A, AA and AAA levels, and the W3C encourages use of its latest version.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. The shared board gives us a place to keep the work moving across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what you want visitors to do.
- 02
Plan
We make wireframes before visual design. You review the content and its order on each page, leaving colour decisions for the design stage.
- 03
Design
We prepare the sitemap and page designs for desktop and mobile. Your feedback helps us refine them before the build.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in clean code or with a content management system your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A clear goal for the site gives us a useful starting point.
- ExamplesBring sites you like and dislike, with a line explaining each choice.
- AccountsFind the logins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or identify who holds them.
- PhotosGather images of your team, premises and completed work; arrange a photo shoot ahead if needed.
- ProofCollect case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships in a folder.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
Search setup takes less effort during the build than as a later fix.
Page templates
Pages sharing a layout take less design and build work than pages that each need a different layout.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, several languages or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; copywriting, photography or translation add work.
Brand
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with a project where the logo, colours and typefaces are still being decided.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Approving only on desktop
Review every page on a phone as well, so you can spot issues in the layout visitors will use.
Leaving content until last
Put real headings and paragraphs into the design early; placeholder text can hide layout problems.
Letting someone else register your accounts
Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business name and grant access to the people doing the work.
Postponing search checks
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before launch.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Scotland
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. A tailored design, the content you need to gather and a separate editor paired with a custom front end all affect the work involved. The separate editor also adds hosting and maintenance components. Once we agree the scope, ask us for a quote.
Is web development still worth it?
It is worth considering when your site needs to give visitors a clear way to enquire and your team a clear way to respond. Decide where form messages go, who receives quote requests and what the confirmation says. In analytics, track submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions and check which pages they started from.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. We also provide an editor for pages, news, projects and careers, so your team can keep those parts of the site up to date without training.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, the content and the code. Before choosing a platform, decide who in your team will update the site and how often. That gives the platform decision a practical basis and makes the handover easier to plan around the people who will use it.
Do you offer support after launch?
Yes. Our process includes ongoing support after launch. You should also decide who in your team will update news, project pages and job posts. Keeping that responsibility clear helps you avoid leaving old posts in place for years, which can make visitors wonder whether the business is still trading.
What is included in the search setup?
We build search-ready pages with metadata, structured data, sitemaps and fast load times. Search setup is part of the site build, so these elements have a place in the page structure from the start. They prepare the site for search without promising a particular ranking.
